Good Morning!

Recommended Posts

Way to go LL! I'm still looking for the thread about your rescue but am sure you did a stellar job and made us all proud. Good luck too LPS on your potential new buddy. A 5 year old Lab should be a nice age to deal with, especially if it's been socialized like that one.

Same ol' same ol' here. Chores done, 4 butcher lambs lambs, 250# worth all squeezed into a 10 cubic ft. freezer so we're making headway. Need to give shots, dock tails and put in eartags. We used to put tattoos in their ears too but gave that up until they're a little older. However, if anyone wants a free tattoo, I'm available. Your choice of 4 sets of numbers, 0 - 9. Green ink only. Perfect for St. Patty's Day! Could also put an eartag in for you I suppose. Then you'd be covered by the USDA Scrapie ID Program. Chicks dig it. :D

Well best go outside and see what has blown up in the past couple hours. No rest for the wicked.

Edit: 20 minutes later, no disasters, yet. Was thinking about your question LPS and looked back at the temperature records for the month of October and September, the months in which most of the breeding would've taken place. September was actually a hair warmer than August this past year, something that's a bit of an anomaly. While it didn't get into the 90's, it did make the mid to upper 80's several times here. Prolonged temps in the 90's can render the rams sterile temporarily while temps in the mid to upper 80's may affect the ratio of male to female sperm. Male sperm are reputedly more resilient and more mobile in the ovine population when warm temps are experienced.  Whether it's backed by a lot of hard data, it's hard to say. I know keeping the rams cooler is generally a plus to the point that some will shear them (again) before breeding season. Sounds like we are not alone although this is an unprecedented number of buck lambs for us.

Good. morning!! My coffee level is almost up to "F" I can't remember what my dreams were about but they were strange ones. No song in my head when I got up either. Its supposed to be in the 40s around here today, so I'll be heading out to cut some wood and walk a few trails and see if I can find a shed or two.

Congrats lindell on the pooch,  sounds like it will work out, ya just never know what you get when it comes to getting an older dog. 44 here with a pretty good south breeze, the Mrs just opened a couple windows,  a little cool but it feels good. Yesterday the boy and i whipped up 3 wood duck boxes for the cabin, the ones out there are pretty ratty but the ducks don't seem to mind, gosh they are fun to watch. We have some extra cedar so he's gonna make some ren houses.

6 hrs of smoke on them pork belly strips yesterday,  cut em up this morning about 1/4 thick,  real good but super Smokey,  might havta do about 4 hrs next time.   Get outside and enjoy gents...

We got the dog.  Very friendly and well behaved.  He has lots of energy and is skinny compared to well fed Sammy.  He gets along well with the cat too.  We watched a movie in the camper last night and all went well. Ya Dotch I think 5 years will work in our favor versus a pup.  I think he may have some setter or something like that in him too.  Longer hair on the tail.

I see Buddy the new dog is asleep on the wifes lap as we write.  He has shied away from me a couple of times today as I reached out to pet him.  He just hesitates a little and then I pet him real nice and even hug him.  I am thinking he may have had a male figure be a little rough with him.  He will love it here with us....

Very interesting weather info about the lambs Dotch.  Sounds like you are a super responsible shepherd.

That burger sounds awesome Boar.  I could eat one right now if it was in front of me.  I got so much done on Friday that I am able to just putz around doing fun projects today.  Enjoy your days everyone.

That's probably a pretty good guess about the dog not being as warm to you initially. Watching our own dog adoption scenario there are some parallels although this one doesn't respect the wife as much as it does me, even though I've been the "bad cop". Kind of a hard head. Still likes me and respects me more. The dog not the wife. :) Other variables involved in your case too I'm sure. Either way it takes some getting used to for all parties. I'm happy for you. We've always had at least one dog for the past 30 odd years. We generally have 2 because it sucks not to have one, if nothing else for companionship.

We try to treat our animals as humanely as possible. That said am hauling the one set of triplet buck lambs to a friend and elderly lady who is adopting them. The mother of these lambs was an older ewe that suddenly went down. She's stumbly and unable to care for the lambs. In fact yesterday we had to fish one of them out from under her before she laid on it or it would've suffocated. Agnes will love having them and the first pail of milk replacer is on us. We have enough headaches right now without feeding 3 bottle lambs 4 - 5 x a day.

Hey that's great the lady will take care of the lambs.  I had Buddy the new dog off his leash most of the morning.  Walked down to the river with him and Sammy.  He stayed right around us real nice.  Then I plowed off the drive area with the 4 wheeler and he just followed along nicely.  Then I made tracks in the snow with the other wheeler with the tracks on it and he just followed along nicely.  He is so light on his feet it is like he is weightless compared to Sammy.  lolol  Sammy seems ok with him now and all seems great actually.  I let him jump in my ol Ford work truck and he loved it.  He and Sammy were packed in with me and we all had a great time.  I think everything is going great.  Sammy finally went and laid down on the deck and watched us.  I told Carla if he doesn't work out we can just let him out along the road somewhere and she said real loud NO!  I cracked up laughing and said I was only kidding.....

Let me know if those pics worked for you.

Ok bear with me.  I will try this another way.  I am learning as I go.  This is better.  Of course Buddy is the skinny black dog and Sammy isn't..   :D  And what the heck there is a pic of Bob the cat who has thumbs on his front feet.   Great cat.  And of course they are sideways and upside down.  Don't know why.  IMG_0308.thumb.JPG.e1b42a5b60158b01c8131

Great shots, LPS. All nice critters. Lucky you snuck that last post in there though or you might've been sleeping in the truck! ;):D

Action photo of me feeding the bottle lambs. Would help to have 4 hands sometimes especially when there are 3 of them and 1 of me. Oh well at least I got milk replacer all over the phone. :)

I took those  pics with my phone of course.  They are right side up on my computer.  So why do they end up in different positions when I post them on here?  And how do you guys turn them for me?  Nice pic Dotch.  That lamb is tiny.

Thanks. Actually my hands are HUGE! ;)
