Mid-Lake Rock
Fishingstar:A friend of mine made his own sleeves using five gallon buckets. He has catch coves already installed. He cut the handle off the buckets and then measured from the top of the catch cover to the ground below. He then measured from the bottom of the "neck" on the bucket to the distance to the ground. After he was sure of his measurements, he cut the bottoms off the buckets. Got the buckets at a hardware store for $3/per. These work well. Another benefit is that the top of the buck is a few inches above the floor in the house and helps keep items from going down the holes. fishingstar
Does a 5 gal. bucket match the size of a catch cover? How did they modify them to fit?
Hawg
I've tried buckets, sewer pipe, round garbage cans, and a few more I can't remember over the years. Nothing compares to the real Catch Cover sleeve. they are spends though. Edited November 1, 2015 by Hawg

Boar
i save alot more heat.using them i know that.
Hawg
Boar is right, they save a ton of heat. Without them you can feel the cold air coming in, especially early or late in the year when banking snow is scarce. I'm not near as a hard core banker with sleeves either. Easier to slide in a good fitting sleeve, buckets do not fit anywhere near tight enough to even putz with them, than shoveling on my back Edited November 3, 2015 by Hawg Boar
RiverChuckNorris
I've never used them because I can't say I've ever had reason to. Often the house is set on some snow and regardless, I always bank snow around the house. Takes 5 mins and I'd argue the insulation value of snow trumps plastic.Either way, guess it's just one less thing to pack/deal with in the litany of gear and prep/tear-down items
