Who wants a free guided Texas duck hunting trip?

Recommended Posts

So here's the deal fellas. I know a lot of you expressed interest in coming down here on that post I had going last year. Well, a few buds of mine were planning on coming down to do a little Texas coastal hunting and they're having some problems filling seats. One guy had to back out & another isn't sure if he can go, so my one bud is looking at having to drive all the way down here by himself so he's looking for a couple driving buddies.

Heres the details. He's leaving Zimmerman early in the am January 2nd (Saturday), driving straight through & arriving about 20 hours later in Port Aransas. Rest/scout/fish on Sunday, hunt Monday-Friday (the 5 day license is $300 cheaper than a full season license) and heading back to MN on Saturday. We'll be staying in a condo (around $120/night, split 6 ways) that will sleep all of us, which will allow us to have a kitchen so we can cook and have a garage to safely store his boat and all our gear. Licenses aren't all that expensive, at around $100 total, plus another $50 if you want to fish, which I highly recommend. Other expenses will just be food (split evenly between all of us) and drinks (byob). He'll be taking his new Silverado and one year old 17' Backwater mud hull boat with a 35hp Backwater longtail. Our only requests are that you're an ethical, responsible hunter, at least have a few years of duck hunting under your belt & don't mind guys consuming a few adult beverages at the condo after the hunt is done. We won't be getting crazy, but most of us like to unwind after a long day of hunting. All you'll need is camo clothes, chest waders, & a shotgun. If you have diver, pintail or teal dekes we'll bring em with but it's not necessary. We have about 12-15 dozen between all of us, but it can take some pretty crazy spreads to bring in those big flocks of redheads. That's about it

The hunting down here is absolutely world-class, especially for fully-plumed reds & long-tail sprigs.  It's nothing to have a few thousand redheads and several hundred sprigs in range in a day, plus an assortment of other divers, and you'll see 10s of thousands of birds a day. We'll also be chasing teal on a couple of those days, giving us a legitimate chance at some cinnamons. I've hunted a lot in MN and NoDak, and the bird hunting here is second to none imho. Here's the link to my reports from last year.

If you want any other details, feel free to post. He has 2-3 open seats. I'll give first priority to guys that post on here often & I'm familiar with. Hope to get a chance to meet a couple of you! God bless

Here's a couple pics of his boat. It's pretty legit!

Oh and one thing I would like to add. Please, do my buddy the courtesy of following through if you say you wanna go. Don't just say you're in to reserve a seat in his truck then back out at the last minute. He's being incredibly generous to put this offer out there and the least yall could do is follow through on your word. Thanks

You guys know how it is. Unless a guy has a passion for duck hunting, those early mornings and rainy days can get old after a couple days. I'll take new guys out all the time, but not for a long trip like this. When I went on my North Dakota trip last year, I took a guy that wasn't real experienced & he was burned out after day 3. It's pretty bad when you are trying to wake a guy up for a hunt & he rolls over & tells you to let him sleep in

That would be awesome trip! I love, I mean LOVE, divers, but used a week for nodak already and have two deer trips coming up, along with some fishing trips this winter. I am jealous of whoever gets to take you up on the offer, would be great hunting like that!

4am on Day 5 or 6 when its 21deg outside and the decoys are frozen to the bottom of the boat because you just can't seem to get the water out of it. The wind is blowing NW at 20mph and it's snowing sideways. Your shells are all loose in the bottom of your blind bag because the boxes disintegrated in the driving rain yesterday. There is a smashed granola bar in there and you hope it's chocolate from the exploded little debie snacks mixed in as well. You've spilled your coffee, twice, and your headlamp batteries are dyeing..... But you can hear the the whistle of bufflehead wings and the thoughts of ringers and canvasbacks keeps you going....

Thats the hardcore part. Especially when you are going for a week at a time.

I would definately be interested. But it's not in the cards for me. Whoever goes will definately be in for the trip of a lifetime. For a MN hunter the chance to hunt Texas full color birds would be a taxidermist dream. image.thumb.jpeg.0977a035f75e5870256abfb
