leechlake
It's funny that I get up earlier on the weekends than during the week, I'm sitting here planning what to smoke, cook, eat today and half hour before sunrise I heard some shots being fired. I guess I'm not as eager as I used to be about duck hunting.I think once everyones awake I will tinker with making some lox. It's easy to make and since no one else likes it around here I get to eat it all. It falls into the healthy category to an extent so no guilt except the creme cheese and bagel part, with some red onion. The Gophers play today, and although I'm an alum I could care less about Gopher football but will watch part of the game and since it's a 230pm start why not have a Crappie BLT before and make some for the wife and kids?I hope my wife goes to the apple orchard today and picks up some pie, I can't do everything? She wants me to fix a few leaking toilet tank issues, bring a screen door into the lumber yard (young black labs try to go through screen doors), and a few other simple tasks. My goal is to get half of them done, if I get them all done she will think I'm Superman and plan some major task.Do you guys do this same planning, food wise weekend mornings? reinhard1, icehole10 and bobberineyes
reinhard1
We got the grandkids this weekend, all five of them. So it's kids activities, but mainly for my wife. She is taking them to Adventure park today, while I make 25 pounds of polish sausage [which I ground yesterday and mixed]. Will like it up and smoke it today. Then more grandkid stuff. I'll let them mix up some brine for a couple of more boneless loins for Canadian bacon. Don't know what we will have for dinner tonight yet. We will see what they want. It's all about them LOL. Grandkids matter. Will also finish work on my ATV. Fixed the no charging problem and now will grease her up and change all the fluids. No Viking game so tomorrow will be a more to do list day especially outside with that 80 degree heat. Will work on cleaning up the trusty 1974 Jayco camper for deer camp. Got a feeling a couple of beers are in there to supervise me. good luck. bobberineyes and icehole10
RebelSS
You bet. Gonna put my rub on my last half- rack of ribs in a bit. Made some 'tato salad last night, gonna make something else later, so I can eat tonite, and have leftovers for tomorrow so I won't have to cook. Got the boat put away, changed oil on the truck, gonna put new skids on the snow blower, slowly poke at whacking some plants down before the leaves dump on the yard. Basically a putter around the yard/garage day....while those ribs are slowly smoking. Then they get attacked. LindellProStaf
Good man Leech. I don't think a guy should ever do the whole list or too much will be expected the next time. lol No my wife is great, if I tackle some of it that is good to her. A guy does need some guy time too. You know R1 I should give my wheelers some TLC too. I am going to pull one boat out of the water since I don't plan on hitting the big lake anymore this year. Will just have my 16' riverboat in the water then. Will put up my tarp tent on the boat for the winter. May put the chains on the tractor. Naah too early for that. I will take the brush hog off though. I will do some yard and garden cleanup too. I will definitely put something in the smoker on Sunday while I watch football after I pull my bear baiting sign. Will hit the river tonight about 5 for a couple of hours of fishing. Maybe catch tomorrows breakfast. This is my plan that is subject to change. I might even make some spud salad Rebel. That sounds great too. Man this is a lot of stuff isn't it? lol reinhard1 and bobberineyes
RebelSS
Trimmed the ribs and pulled the membrane... Rubbed 'em good... Threw 'em on the grill after the packet of apple wood was pouring out smoke... Let 'em go an hour, flipped and slathered with BBQ sauce...another half-hour....perfection. bobberineyes
Those weekends waking up early trying to figure out what to do next are the best ones. Today I knew I wasn't doing any cooking/ smoking, even though it was pheasant opener, wasn't doing that either. It was time, one of 3 maple tree's had to come down, the guys at work and a truck was available, so now I have a sea of brush to get rid of... LindellProStaf
Well I did get the big boat out of the water and installed it's A-frame tarp shelter. Drained lower unit and took out battery. Did go take sign off bear bait and wouldn't you know it? The bait was cleaned up. Not a crumb remained. It had 15 gallons of donuts and Boars special sauce on them. SO my baiting was a complete success. I just didn't get to hunt the bear. lol That made me and the wifes day. She likes to come with me baiting. She usually runs the trail cam which we did not put up at the bait due to no activity. We did go for a nice boat ride upriver and then downriver since it was so nice today. Now we have ribs on the smoker and are watching football now and then. We also have a fire going in the fire ring so like sitting there too. Did not accomplish all that I wanted to but had a great day. I am now going to dry rub some pork belly for another batch of bacon. bobberineyes and reinhard1

I usually start thinking about the weekend meals a few days before so I can get the meat thawing. Last weekend I took out a whole chicken on Wednesday for Sundays supper, I saw the forecast for a warm Sunday and thought it would be good to sit around and watch the chicken turn. Also took out a pound of burger for Friday, had one cabbage left in the garden, made a hot dish for my Friday noon meal. Saturdays meal was up in the air, went pheasant hunting in the morning, had a party to goto, then grilled the pheasant for supper after a little marinating. Had Friday off so I had three days to work on my To Do list. Friday put the mower on, mowed the driveway and some corn spots, to make it easier to walk around for pheasant hunting, put the mower away for one last time, gave the tractor a blow job (blew out the radiator ), started operation Water Apple Tree - watering the 10 apple trees I have around the yard one last time - shot my bow, washed the truck, pheasant hunted Sat, scouted for ducks (none to be found ) , Sunday morning sat on the deck with the wife, had coffee with the wife, and watched the sun rise - it was beautiful out. Then puttered around the shop during Sid time, then barbecued my chicken. Was a nice relaxing weekend!!! reinhard1
