Looking for help training

Can any one recomend a trainner or kennel to help me with a 9 month old female black lab. The dog is great the problem is I really just do not know what I am doing. I am hoping to use her for ducks and pheasents. I live in Eagan so anything in the South Metro would be great.

You could try Tom Dokken kennels, I believe they are near Northfield.

Ten Mile Kennels is just across the border off of I94 in Wisconsin. Does a good job and the dog still roots for the Vikes. I guess a better trainer would've cured that problem though. I think he leaves for Texas real soon so better contact him fast.

I have it narrowed down to either KAOS Kennels or Holzinger Kennels has anyone heard anything good or bad about either of them?

The owners of KAOS used to live right next to me. They were working with the dogs every day rain or shine. I never heard one complaint about anything by anybody. If you talk to them, make sure you tell them hi from Jeff.

I'd also pick up a copy of the book "Gun Dog" and/or related videos. They coincide with all that Mr. Dokken usually preaches. It will give you a good 101 & 201 for dog training.

Holzinger kennels does a very good job however I don't know if Terry actually handles the dogs, ditto for Dokken, I know he doesn't unless you have deep pockets. I would try Wings and Whistles in Watertown. Ask for Mike Schulemberg. He is a great guy, has great facilities and is the softest trainer I have ever seen. I train pointers and he is who I bring my personal dogs to when they need a little polishing. Good Luck with the pup.

I decided on Holzinger Kennels. After talking with them and Kaos Kennels I just felt more comfortable with Holzinger. I will let everyone know how it goes.

Mike Schuelenberg helped me train my first
dog and he was very good both with the dog and with training me to read the dog. He used to work for Tom Dokken 15+ years ago.
You couldn't go wrong working with him.
