Metro area game farms

I'm looking for feedback on the best metro area game farms. I have a new black lab, who needs to taste success every time we go out for the first Fall. I'm wondering about prices, and terrain. I don't want it to be a complete cake walk where we go out in a back yard.... watch a guy plant a bird 50 feet away, and then go get it. Any suggestions or help would be great. Thanks.

Hey, I'm going to watch this one with interest for myself and my pup, too. Other than a couple Dakota trips, I no longer have access to good pheasant land in Minnesota.

Am interested in hunt clubs west of Twin Cities, as I'm in Annandale area (one here got closed down recently due to neighbor complaints).

I found this HSOforum, could be of some help to us. It lists a ton of game farms, all around the state. Hope this helps you out some. I also talked to a friend who said Pheasant Dreams in Elk River is a decent place, not to rough for your younger pups, and they've always had good luck getting left over birds as well.

Thank you. I might be getting some Minnesota bird hunting afterall. It's a shame access to property has gotten so tough, but I can understand the problems many landowners have faced. What bothers me is the fact I'm seeing some of the same in the Dakotas.

Hi All...

I used to be a member of Traxler's down in Le Center. Got a bit spendy (and "yuppie") for me and I suspected a bit of hanky-panky with the way they plant birds. They used to provide a great hunt up until a few years ago.

I've been meaning to try one a bit closer to me. Has anyone been to or heard anything about Oakdale Ridge Hunting Preserve located in Belle Plaine?

ah yeah access to land is a pain, I still remember and up to this date down in south texas we would usually go to any of the fields near my house and hunt dove , whitewing, coyotes, rabbit, and the owners usually saw us there. the only thing they would say was just as long as you pick up your casings and trash you can hunt in my land no charge, I can say that for 18 years straight we would travel 1/4 of a mile to 3 miles away every dove season and would go into any land without permission everyone else was out there doing it. Cant wait for september dove season going to south texas

Last year at this time I was trying to do the same thing with my new Choc Lab pup. We went to Glendorado in Princeton and the owner just gave me the birds in hand to plant myself just the way I wanted to. I used a milk crate with a string so I could flush the bird at the perfect time when my dog found it. Just leave your dog in the truck so he/she can't see the exact placement location and it's a lot of fun. I'm thinking of heading there again soon as my dog hasn't had a hunt since late duck season.
