jbell1981
My step-dad just picked up a used boat that has lake scum pretty thick on the sides of the painted aluminum hull. Any recommendations on what to use to get that off without back breaking scrubbing or damaging the paint?
BoxMN
I would use HOT water, some dishsoap, and a rag first, heavy on the HOT. That should do most of it I bet. Vinegar will get water spots off, usually find water spots on the motor and lower unit.Good luck and have fun with the new toy!
Mid-Lake Rock
JJV's Best Boat Scum Remover works well. You can get it at most marinas / boat supply places. I also agree to use HOT water.
Rockin Randy
I use a product called ZING. Really great stuff! Got mine at a boat store.

Kyhl
Starbrite instant hull cleaner I use this yearly. Works great. You will want to wear gloves or it will let you know where every nick is in your fingers.
Bobby Bass
When you have an old hull and you really want to clean it you are just going to have to spent some time and scrub off the grime. Having said that I usually pull up a chair, turn on a baseball game and use some alum wheel polish/cleaner on the hull. Takes some time but makes keeping it clean so much easier.
