Draw weight???

I'm relatively new to archery, and just increased my draw weight from 55 lbs to 70 lbs after I felt I got the form and mechanics down. My shot groups weren't as consistent as they had been, and I'm wondering if the lack of consistency is most likely my error, or if my arrows could be too light for the higher draw weight? As long as I can comfortably draw and hold, is it recommended to max out the draw weight?

15 lbs heavier is a lot to ask from those arrows, they may well be too light at that heavy weight.

Your bow is most efficient at the highest draw weight it is capable of. That doesn't mean you are. 70 lbs is a lot of weight for even the strongest guy. Drop it back to where you are most comfortable and your groups will probably tighten up again.

I'd dial it down a little if I were you. Once hunting season rolls around and it gets cold, you wont be able to pull as much weight as easily. When you sit in a tree all morning your muscles will be cold and tense, so pulling 70 lbs will be more of a struggle when a deer is standing there.

I have my bow at 62 lbs and I can shoot tight patterns at 50 yards

Yep, this could definitely be an issue of under-spined arrows. However, I agree with the above and it's also likely an issue with the shooter bumping up so much. Lots of guys handle 70 lbs. no problem- I did for many, many years, but have dialed my bow back since my shoulders started giving me problems. If you really want to know if it's the "Indian or the arrows", get a half-dozen stiffer arrows and give it a try.

Musky,

Please give us some specifics on your bow, Arrows and draw length. Depending on where you purchased your bow. I would be suprised if a pro shop sent you out the door with arrows that cannot handle bumping up the poundage close to the max on the bow.

I have to agree with Scoot. You made a huge jump in poundage.
