Strikemaster Electra ice auger issues

Hello,

So my Strikemaster Electra ice auger is having some issues when it reaches the bottom of the hole. The auger works like a charm until it reaches almost to the bottom, then it stops cutting and it just pulls my arms all over the place. Like it rips and pulls, but will not quite get through. The auger is relatively new (3 years) and I have taken great care of it,

Has anyone else had this issue with the auger

Any tips to fix this,

Thanks

Sounds like the pitch is off. I would bring it in to a certified service center the most it would probably cost is a pair of new blades.

Welcome to the club!!! My Electra is the biggest piece of dump I own!!! It does exactly what you describe, it almost jerks your arms off and wrenches your back when you get to the bottom of the hole. Its like when you're using your hand drill and drilling thru a piece of iron, how the drill bit catches at the bottom of the hole. If you do a search on the net lots of other Electra owners have the same problem.

It did that right out of the box, its not a broken weld or anything like that. I think its just the slower RPM's causing the problem.

What I do is when I get close to the bottom of the hole is hold on tight and try to go slow, take less of a bite. I also pull up and get as many ice chips out of the hole before the get wet, keep the auger spinning faster!! Of course the first hole in your house is kind of a guess, you don't know where the bottom of the ice is, your back gets a jank.

Thats why I've been closely following the other auger thread, I think a Honda 4-stroke is in my future, can't wait to send this piece of dump down the road.

Probably the china made blades. Needs the good ones. I actually put my chipper auger on my electra and the lazer on my gas magnum. the chipper works great on the electra head. the lazer will catch some at the bottom of the hole with the gas head even and I have read that is because of the china made blades.

I'm not familiar with or have ever owned a Strikemaster...but is this the unit you are referring to that has just been recalled!?

Strikemaster Lazer Recall Notice

No. This recall is for the newer version of Strikemasters electric auger. Hopefully they've discontinued making that piece of carp Electra.
