Having been on ice for the last 6 weekends, gosh i hate ice fishing.. alot has gone thru my noodle, actually it has gone flat line. HA. just thinking on next hunting season and my goals.

Scout more public land. Do some trimming/tree cutting on my private land. Scout new stand site on my private land. Shed hunt more than once or twice a season.

Graft 8 apple trees onto siberian seedlings from last year

Prune 60 trees

Acquire some sunlight via Stihl

Audit DNR

Form neighborhood deer coop to rebuild our local herd

It's a MS 310 Stihl for me. Cut up blowdowns from the past century. Figure out a trail idea to make life easier getting to where I need to go. Explore the northern 1/3 of my land and get shooting lanes cut into that area. See when my crew wants to log off some massive old trees. Cut one window into a blowdown area where nice bucks seem to want to hide. All about the chainsaw, clippers, and ax.

Take care of projects all summer so my fall is clear.

Arrow a nice buck or some meat.

Get the kids in the woods as much as possible.

1 more goal, start bow hunting again, my last archery tag was like in 1992. This is the 4th or 5th year in a row where I've added up the buck entries from the outdoor news and it's over 50% bow kills and many/most are very mature bucks. 65% of the best buck winners were by bow this year. 11-17. My love for loading the 30.06 needs to met with the new reality that bow hunting is the best way to tag a mature buck considering the sheer volume of pressure that happens in Novembers gun season and considering how we watch them feed in September sometimes 2 hours b4 dark the big horses are out already walking right past my ladder stands, what am I doing dummy. Took this long to realize this, I'm a slow learner.

Goals are:

Spring scouting and shed hunting

Plant 600+ conifers

Grow some wild plums and crab apples from seed

Figure out where to put up and move around 7-8 stands based on spring scouting

Get out in the woods in the fall and see some deer

Other things too, but above is the general plan.

In all seriousness. If i get off this friken overtime i plan on doing more nowhuntingwith my daughter. Which means less bearnhunting. Hut thats a great trade off. Halle got a long bow and were gona getgoingnon it .
