TOP WATER LURES

O2BFSHN

Recommended Posts

I have had some of my best top water fishing done in the fall months that are aproaching fast. Just kind of wondering what others top water lure of choice is?

I would go with a power bait popper, if any of you remember them? I don't believe they make them anymore. Ever since then I've been fishing different knids but haven't really had a favorite. If I had to choose I'd probably go with the skitter pop on a frog color.

Thanks for the feedback!

First off.. welcome to fishing minnesota( I notice this is only your 6th post)and I hope you have many more...

My fave top water bait in the fall are walk the dog type baits.. like the Lucky Craft Sammy or bait similar to that... pop-r type baits are a second for me... buzzbaits are also a lot of fun...

I like to use buzzbaits in the late summer and fall times. The bass bite really starts to pickup in the fall and they can be stacked up in the shallows putting the feedbag on for winter. They are aggressive and will chase down a buzzbait, you also have a chance at a big one, which is one thing buzzbaits are known to produce at times--big bass.

I'm also a fan of buzzbaits.. very quick and effective baits to fish when bass are hitting surface lures. The spook is another one that I am really starting to like a lot. The tiny torpedo for smallies has always been good to me too.

i will be fishing in northern minnesota this fall and what worked well for me was green buzzbaits with green double twister tail trailers (trying to replicate a frog) it seems as though the frogs migrated into the water and burrow themselves in the sand/mud. and the bass just love them. so i fish alot of spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in green colors. i try to work them thru the bullrushes and wait for the explosion.

It looks like I'm a little behind everyone with the fall topwater choices. My favorite topwaters are buzzbaits (white or black) and torpedos for the river, buzzbaits, spooks, & scum frogs for lakes. As mentioned earlier, frogs have a seasonal migration in many areas in MN from about now until the end of September. A good indicator is when the milfoil starts to turn colors - throw frogs for sure in the thick stuff & pads! Work them fast and REALLY slow to figure out what moods they are in.

The all time best topwater for me is anything you can finesse in the river (being able to stop your presentation and float back down over a recent strike or likely areas) I love the tiny torpedo and the teeny torpedo the zarapuppy and its been mentioned before but anything in frog patterns and colors the big smallies really hit hard. There is no better fishing experience in the world then having a big hawg smallie blowing up then chasing down your topwater bait in the river when they are active enuff thats all I ever fish with! just my 2 cents

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
