ice crappies with...

I usually come prepared with minnows, wax worms, artificials and soft plastics.

My go to is soft plastics on small tungsten jigs. But if that isn't working, I'll try something else. Somedays they just won't hit anything except a minnow under a bobber.

I'm not sure if day/night makes a difference on what you offer them.

Depends on the time of the day and the lake. If I want to go after bigger crappies during night time, I bring slip bobber and fatheads. However, I have to expect walleye, northern pike or bass hit it hard. If just quick limit in a hurry during dark, I use silver wigglers and glow in the dark jigs. During the day, I keep my fishing simple--wax worm with heaviest jig I can get away with in a hurry as well as soft plastic and jig combinations.

What kind of plastics are you using for ice fishing? I take it they are tipped on a very small jig? I am curious as with summer fishing; plastics is the only way to go and revolutionized my Crappie fishing!!

You are limiting your self if you only use one presentation. Let the fish tell you what you want. There is no "best bait" or "best lure" it all varies by day, lake, fish activity and plenty of other factors. Play around and see what works that particular day. I will put a small minnow on a set line but my other line is constantly getting changed out until I find what works best. If the set line isn't getting hit I will change that up too.
