I've been doing the same as run. every bird my dog and I get together I pluck a feather and put it in a vase. then when she dies eekcry, I will get her cremated and put her earn next to her vase of feathers and probably mount it all on a piece of drift wood with a really nice picture of her, or something and put it in my outdoors room with all my other mounts and fishing awards...

I pluck a tail feather from each bird I shoot provided it has one long enough smile and put them in a vase. I started doing it about 10 yrs ago and it has been fun watching the collection grow.

My variation of this that I have two coolie cups, one with feathers from previous years and one with one feather from each rooster this year. On opening day I will be cleaning out this years coolie so I can keep a count on the birds I get this year. I don't keep track of the ones from SoDak, just the MN birds, they're a lot tougher to get, and the later you get into the season, they get to be true trophies worth keeping track of.
