Climbing deer stands

Those hand climbers like the one you are looking at are a little harder to use than the sit and climb models in my opinion. I got a good ab workout which I wasn't looking for when climbing a tree. I sold my hand climber style summit bushmaster and went with a summit viper for that reason.

I have viper too, and like that I can sit and climb when needed. I am ~270 and it isn't that tight, but I think a bit more LBS and it might get tighter. I think Viper is rated at 300. But I like the rail around it for climbing.

The downfall with the Summit Viper (I own one) is you have one small area (approx your 8 o'clock to 10 o'clock, if shooting right-handed)to shoot a bow from while sitting down, otherwise you need to be standing to take any other shots. For me, that means I'm standing for the vast majority of the time I'm on stand.

If I were to buy one, I'd go with a model that has a rail that can be moved, or bulk up your upper body and get a hand climber.

The first climber I used was a hand climber and it worked ok. It definitely give the abs a workout though. I have a summit sit and climb now and it's much easier. I mainly use the climber for bow and like drifter said it is more difficult to draw with the rail. I try to set mine so the seat half is tilted slightly down and that seems to help a little. I also tightened the seat straps all the way so I sit a little higher. I'm not sure how it would be for size though. Late season when I'm later up it does seems a little tight.
