Well guys, I see this site has been slow so I thought I'd give ya something to reply on, it sure ticked me off!!!!!!!
Was out on a lake in the McGregor area setting some Tip-Ups out for some Northerns and there were a few people on the lake doing the same and the this one couple that was fishing a bout 100 yds from us had there flag go up, didn't think much about it until that 4.5# Large Mouth was taken and tossed on the ice and then about a half hour later they did it again with a 3.5# or so, I know the whole idea is to catch a meal, but take the smaller ones 'Eh!!
I guess it bothered me only because we fish Bass up here but it's all CR!!!!!
It got to me for the simple fact those fish are some major spawners!

That does suck! I REALLY think they should close the largemouth bass season when winter hits or when the ice fishing starts. Anything caught should be immeadiately released, just like our smallmouth friends.
Anyone agree with me on this? Time and time again trophy largies get harvested in the winter! frown.gif

The part that bugs me about the whole thing, is a fish like that would go better on the wall with a piece of driftwood rather than on the table with french fries!! I don't care if people are going to keep some fish for a meal but lets not take the ones that sustain the future of that fishery which ever species that may be!!!
About a year ago I CR'd a Walleye that was 31.5" and about 12 plus pounds, I still feel sick every time I look at the wall at home where he should be hanging, but I CR all the Bass I catch and it has just become set in my mind, no matter what species! Well I gotta go now, not felling well, "catch ya later!

Yeah, that bites. I would be for closing bass to C&R from November to June 15th with a special tournament stamp allowing people to box them in April through May 15th. Only immediate C&R from May 20 to June 15th which is the heart of the spawning season. Obviously that makes too much sense and will never be done.

Wormburner,
Get a graphite replica of that Walleye. Problem solved.

Yeah it sucks when people keep bass period.
YUCKY in the pan.
Every year on bass opener, I watch the little 14 ft aluminum boats come into my favorite bay on opening morning(which is on Memorial weekend most years when everyone is on vacation); they plop down anchors and start filling stringers with bass.
Not a darn thing I can do to change their mindset.
I think bass opener on Memorial weekend sucks more than anything, because its a heavy vacation weekend, and the start of summer, and people lookin for easy meals.
Honestly, when I was young, I have pictures of myself doing the same thing. Stringers full of bass.
But you know what? It only took some time, and I realized that I liked catching them more than eating them, and now they ALL go back. Every one. The last one I kept was June 24th of 1988. Its on the wall.
Graphites only for me now.

But, this is no different than deer hunting. Some people are into deer hunting for one thing only; shoot a deer no matter what it is.
Some people are into fishing for one thing only; eat fish.

We will never have 100% C/R on bass.
Unless of course the DNR makes them C/R statewide!!!!!!!!!

A true bass fisherman never uses live bait and never keeps his/her catch. It is always catch and release. Some people just don't look at the benefits of releasing the bigger fish to help replenish the population they only see the "big" fish.

That is unfortunate for sure. I personally don't see why anyone would want to eat a bass frown.gif, but everyone has their own idea of what fishing is about. Some cultures and different areas of the country think differently on this issue. Until they change the laws, I guess you can't blame guys who want to keep some fish to eat. I'd be in favor of having bass total CPR. That means you can't register a state record though... frown.gif That also doesn't jive well with traditional bass tournaments. Slots are effective, but you have the same issue with tournaments. Better to have educated CPR anglers, which the majority of bass anglers are I believe.

Yea, it sucks to see this sort of thing with a specie we so try to catch and release, but people have different ethics I guess. It really bugs me when they are on a lake that you fish a lot of CR on and there is nothing you can do. One time that comes to mind was last spring we are up at the cabin, and our lake is connected to some real good bass lakes that are not fished in much. We have to hop a beaver dam(not easy in a 16.5 ft cajun wink.gif, and get thrugh some peat bog stuff to get there. We get back to our spot and start casting, and a little 14fter comes through(those are the boats people can usually get back there) with a bunch of these resort vacationers from the resort on our lake, holding there stringer of big bass out of the water, obviously "showing off" but trying to look like they are not. Makes me sick...
