Grand Rapids area bass lakes

Hey folks,

In a little less than a month I'm starting a new position at the Blandin Foundation in Grand Rapids. Since I don't want to drive 65 miles to work every day forever and ever, me and the missus are going to put our Leech Lake place on the market and look for something in the Grand Rapids area.

I'd like to find a place on or near a good bass lake. So, other than Pokegama - the only lake in that area I've ever fished - what are some good lakes?

I've caught some nice bass on Hill Lake, it's a fun lake to fish as the bass relate to docks as most of them are over pretty deep water and the bass wait underneath them to ambush other fish.

It's a large, deep lake that doesn't get a ton of recreational traffic. Hill is fun because it is super clear and has well defined weedlines, areas of lilly pads, and some downed timber to try to fish. It also is up and down for crappies, walleyes, and northerns.

Yeah, don't talk about the lakes around there. One of the locals will get on here and start raising Holy H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. Then you have to sift through post-after-post of: Blah-blah-blah-back in the day-blah, blah, blah- Internet ruining fishing-blah-blah-blah.

thatoneguy- boy ohhh boy, honestly as stated, its far easier to tell you which are not good than which are good. JPZ and I went on a 4 day trip up that way last spring and wacked them.. both smallies and largies.. and a lot of nice bonus walleye. And JP caught one of the biggest Minnesota Pike I have ever seen.. hopefully he still has the pict, maybe he can post it. It was a BEAST!

I sent you a PM thatoneguy.
