harvey lee
Last fall I noticed my battery was getting a bit weak when I started the wheeler. Typically I keep a maintainer on it when not in use but did not the last few times last fall deer hunting.Did not put it on over the winter either-dumb.So, it is 6 years old and it was down about 25% on fluid in each cell. I filled the cells up with distilled water and it is on the charger now.I will have it checked after a full charge but has anyone done this in the past and saved the battery or am I wasting my time.I use the wheeler about 20 miles a year in Nov for deer hunting and thats it, sits the rest of the year except maybe once or twice in the summer when I give the grandkid's a ride. harvey lee
Well, I got the answer I was looking for this am when I tested the battery. Held volts but as far as putting a load on the battery, very bad. Time for a new battery.
Fowlmouth
On the bright side, 6 years is pretty decent for a wheeler battery that doesn't get much use.
fishing tech
If you can get by I would wait until fall to buy a new one.
harvey lee
Already purchased one. Grandkids may want to ride it so I have to have it ready just incase. This one will have the battery maintainer kept on it all the time. Who knows if I can get 6-7 years out of the next one as little as I use it.
ClownColor
Curious as to how many people use battery tenders. We've had 5 atv's, 4 different brands, and only 1 isn't with us any more. We use them slightly more then you but not too much. Never replaced any batteries but the '98 once. Never used a battery tender.
fishingstar
I have 4 atv's and don't use tenders. I have replace 1 battery on a atv that I had for 5 years. when I bought it they said they just put it in.
Ryan_V
I have one, and run a maintainer. I plow snow with it using the winch, so that's why I have the tender. That said, my yuasa battery that is about 5-6 years old is shot and needs to be replaced.
