The Grebe
How much of a job is it to convert what is on a VHS tape, onto a computer disk? Besides a VCR, what other kind of equipment would a person need?
SkunkedAgain
You would need a video card with RCA inputs, and a video recording program on your computer.Another route is your could buy a DVD burner and plug your VCR into that, burning your VHS tapes onto DVDs and then ripping them onto your computer. The Grebe
Thank you, I just needed some direction, a jumping off point, that doesn't sound to awfully complicated, I should be abel to handle that?
delcecchi
How many tapes do you want to convert? If it is only a few, might be easier and cheaper to use one of the places that does that.
Bowfin
Another route is your could buy a DVD burner and plug your VCR into that, burning your VHS tapes onto DVDs and then ripping them onto your computer. I copied my Hi-8 tapes onto DVD but would like to convert to digital and save on the computer for long term. What do you mean by "ripping them onto your computer?" What would I need? SkunkedAgain
You need a DVD player on your computer as well as a DVD ripper, which is a program that can read a DVD and encode it into a digital file of your choosing. I have one called DVD Fab - which I'm not sure is legal anymore?? It allows you to burn DVDs so that you can watch them on your phone, tablet, computer, etc.
fishwater
Handbrake and MakeMKV is what I use for pulling video files off DVD. Both are freeware. Make MKV strips the files off the DVD, Handbrake puts them into the desired format for digital playback. Both are super easy to use.
