A buddy of mine took 6 of his lambs into the butcher.

He surprised me with one of them.

I have about 50 pounds of chops, lamb burger, and a couple of boneless leg roasts.

I love lamb but have only made chops a few times or had it in a restaurant or 2.

Anybody have any tried and true lamb recipe's or advice on preparation.

I am sure there will be a few that will suggest the best thing to do with it is box it up and give it to them. grin

I have read some good things for lamb roasts. You can cook them in a crockpot much like a beef roast. One of the better looking recipes I have is one I plan to do where I'm going to smoke a boneless leg of lamb, Probably stuff it with garlic and then find a good Greek rub for it. You can probably do up some great Greek Meatballs with that Lamb burger....you are definitely going to have some good eats!

When you said lamb burger the first thing that came to mind was Kofte Kebabs:

1 lb. ground lamb

1 tsp. kosher salt

2-4 cloves of minced garlic

3 Tbsp. grated onion

3 Tbsp. chopped parsley

1 Tbsp. coriander

1 tsp. cumin

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. allspice

1/4 tsp. cayenne

1/4 tsp. ginger1/4 tsp. pepper

mash the garlic into a paste with the salt with the flat side of a knife. Add the garlic along with the rest of the ingredients along with the lamb until blended. We like to form patties since they are easier for our 8 year old to eat, but you can also form them into a ball and then put the lamb on the tip of a skewer and flatten the lamb onto the skewer, flattening it into a 2 inch oval. Grill over medium heat 6-10 minutes to your desired degree of doneness. We eat them with sliced red onion and Tzatziki:

1 C. seeded, peeled, grated cucumber

pinch of salt

1 C. plain yogurt (greek is best)

1 Tbsp. chopped mint

2 tsp. chopped dill

2 tsp. lemon juice

1/4 tsp. salt

2 minced cloves of garlic

Place the cucumber on several layers of paper towels; sprinkle with the salt. Let stand 30 minutes.

Combine the cucumber with all other ingredients and stir to blend. Refriderate at least 1 hour before serving

I have never eaten lamb chops but a lamb roast could be tied and grilled or cut up and used in curry. I would reccomend Beef curry and toasted spices from Cooking Light

Go on to Foodtv and look up Emeril's seared petite lamb chops with rosemary balsamic reduction. It is out of this world. To the reduction, I double garlic and onions, add 1/2 cup red wine with the balsamic vinegar, and when removing the rosemary I add 1/2 cup of mixed berries (blueberries, black berries etc). Remember all lamb, at the latest, must come off the grill or about of the oven when rare, or you will be eating mutton.

Same here. I make essentially the same thing but call them Lamb Logs. The basic spices are pretty much the same, but you can find variants all over the internet. For me, I just roll them into logs and cook in a pan. Then I put them over a bed of rice.

You could also buy some pita pockets and hummus, stuff the lamb in there, and enjoy your own gyro. Most gyro places will also sell you some of their cucumber and tahini sauces for 50 cents or so.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
