knoppers
OK, I know that our fishing licenses were good to the last day of april, did that change?my reason was I looked at my trout stamp and it said that it expires last day of feb. looking into the regs on-line, I could not find anything saying that any license is good after the last day of feb. my reason is I do some trout fishing in march, and I don't know if I need to get a new license or not.another grey area. I put new registration decals on my snowmobile this winter, and noticed they did not give me a trail sticker, even though I paid the fees for it on renewal. I asked someone at work and they told me they don't give those anymore, so I rode all year thinking I am fine. today I went to the sportshow in st. cloud, and asked a working CO at the show if I needed it, and he said I should have it? but then told me to check the HSOforum or call them on it. I checked the HSOforum, and they no longer give the trail sticker out, its on the actual tabs you put on the side of the sled. my concern here is this CO did not even know this. so if I am out riding and get stopped for my license, I probally would have gotten a ticket for not having a trail permit. The trail sticker is part of the Lic, tab now. They charge twice as much and even save money not printing out the little extra trail tab! knoppers
looking at the regs, in very small print, it stats, that the license ends the last day of feb., I guess I missed something, and will get a new license before march like we used to do. wait, they may change it before then. Pretty annoying when the COs don't know some of the most basic laws. Anything that changed in the last year should be on top of their "todo" list for "what to know this year". It's not like the snowmobiling season just started! I guess there are people who just punch the clock and there are people who actually care about their jobs.....and this guy seems to me like a clock puncher. leech~~
I think sometimes we forget that a lot of these CO's work in different fields of inforcement at the DNR and they may not be up on all the rules of other areas.
knoppers
I agree, he was there for the exotics, to help us know and educate us on the harm they do. it looked like he has been a CO for many years, and was doing something other than checking snowmobiles of late. I don't want to belittle him on something he may not regulate.
minky
It is hard for them to stay current on every change.I still think he could have given a better answer.Maybe taken your number and called you with the correct answer.
bturck
knoppers if i am reading correctly, the fishing license goes march 1st to feb 28th the next year. however the past few years you had to buy a new license on may 1st. not sure the dnr ever changed that verbiage in the regs. gets confusing every year as to the required purchase date
DTro
This comes up every single year, and I'll give the same response I always do. Switch to Jan 1 and end all confusion.
gonehunting
The legislature is the one making the changes.
