Source/Recommendation-New LP Furnace

Porcupine

Recommended Posts

I had a reputable company out to bid a new High Efficiency LP furnace and to say I was astounded at the price was an understatement. The price was simply the furnace and labor to install it. A-Coil and AC unit was staying and very little plemum modifications. The main difference was the new one was vented out the wall rather than chimney. That was not a huge deal in my opinion because the furnace is about 10 feet from the wall and the area is unfinished. Does anyone have any contractors they recommend and also real life experience as to what this SHOULD cost? FYI the quote was about than $5,600.

Apples to oranges if you don't tell us MORE.

Size btu, furnace efficency 80%, 90%, 95%, 1 stage or 2, variable speed or not?????

A/C size, efficency 13,14, 16, 18,seer, line set, line+low voltage indoor and out, thermoste about 10 to chose from, will the new coil fit in the old plenum, drain?????

See what i mean. This list can on and on.

Do your home work, don't just take the lowest bid. Again apples to oranges

I had four contractors including my local utility give me quotes on a new A/C unit. I specified the make and model of the A/C unit. The range of pricing for the same solution was huge. Keep shopping. Tell them that you are getting multiple bids. this may help them sharpen their pencils.

Here is more info-

80,000 BTU 96% efficiency furnace- 2 Stage

2.5 Ton 16 Seer Heat Pump

I have had bids from 6500 to 15,000 for the same thing. Seems impossible but after 5 quotes I just want to sit down and have a beer. How can they range that much?

We had a large range in price when getting a new AC unit 2 years ago. We ended up going with Kath Heating and Air. They provided a good quote (not the cheapest) and the guy that came out to quote the unit was also a straight shooter that wanted my business but didn't try to blow smoke up anyone's backside. In the end I went with the company I felt would do the best job and not the company who provided the absolute cheapest bid.
