BuckShot11
Hey fellas, Just yesterday had a recoil issue. It worked perfectly, but now doesn't fully recoil back in, and leaves about 6 inches of cord hanging. Wondering if anyone has had this same issue on their Strikemaster Auger. I bought mine new in 2011 so the warranty has expired. I could purchase a new recoil, but would like to see if there are any tricks to fixing this myself. Thanks for any suggestions. Weissguy
Generally this occurs when the recoil spring has become "sprung" due to pulling the recoil to the end of its rope to hard. Strikemaster recommends holding the pull handle with rope in your hand of choice and using the opposite hand to hold the closest handle of the auger in front of you. This method as opposed to holding the auger handle farthest from you prevents pulling the recoil to the end (if this makes sense). Shorter strokes means recoil spring and rope do not get over extended.Possible to disassemble try and wrap another loop of recoil rope around the keeper. Go ahead and plan on picking up a new recoils before attempting, as I have never been successful attempting this.D Rock in New Brighton is a Strikemaster service center.Good luck. centralmnguy
I had the same issue...took my flywheel off and sprayed some wd-40 on rope and inside spring etc....work it a few time before putting back together. Just make sure you put it all back together the same way and don't tighten top bolt to tight it won't move.Let us know if it worked!
LakeDocktor
I would take the plastic plug cap off the handle, pull the knot and excess rope through the handle and retie the knot. This will shorten up your recoil, but like others have said, you shouldn't be pulling it out all the way.
Lawrence Luoma
Welcome to the world of Solo!! End of the day your going to need to replace the coil. Once you get the new one hose it down in WD-40 to break away all the grease.

Surface Tension
Put more preload on the spring. Remove the recoil housing. Do Not remove the bolt in the center of the spool. Look for a notch on the rim of the rope spool.Pull recoil rope out 2' or so.Hold onto the spool so it doesn't retract.Loop the rope back through the guide hole on the recoil cover.Match up the notch in the spool toward the guide, place the rope in the notch.Rotate the spool one full turn to increase spring preload while guiding the rope around the spool.Still holding onto the spool, pull the remainder of the loop out by pulling on the handle. McGurk
Watch this and follow his lead as he discussed your exact issue and the solution with disassembly. This is not a SM video, but an owner in his garage.
BuckShot11
All right guys... Pulled it off, WD-40'd the dump out of it, wound it back up, worked it a bit, and so far back to normal. I'll be using it Monday and Tuesday so that'll be the real test, but looks to be back working fine. Again Thanks for the info!!!
