Kyle
I'm looking for a review on this unit. I'm very tempted, but don't want to waste $600 when I don't seem to have problems catching fish with my vx-1.
Esox_Magnum
Cant comment on the 6 since we run 7's but will not go back to a mechanical unit...Was going to get the wife a 6 but got a steal on a twice used 7...I have ran the 7 since they were released and love it, ran LX-5 for several years prior.... fisherman-andy
The only difference here from the 6 and 7 is the smaller screen, .75 target separation. All other feature are identical. I will say the screen estate on the 7 allows for easier viewing on the eyes. The dial screen display on the 6 is about the similar size as a mechnical Marcum flasher. Kyle
how long can you fish on one fully charge 12v battery?
Esox_Magnum
No idea never have been below 12 volts in a long day of fishing yet, both ours get charged after every trip...
d beyer
Kyle, if you can afford it go with the 7. I think you can get them for about $650 now. I looked at the 6 and 7 side by side and the bigger screen makes a difference. You can also update the 7 with a camera later if you want. I was running a lx 5 for 3 years before getting the 7 and I don't know if I could go back to using it after only 2 trips out with the 7. I did keep the 5 for a back up though just in case I need it. I had the 7 out one day for over 6 hours and the voltage meter never went below 12.8.
Redlineracer12
I have the LX6 because it was on sale when I bought it making the price difference more like $150. After using an LX7 I wish I would have just spent the extra money to get the big screen, it really is that much bigger. That said I have no other complaints about the LX6, it works great and the battery lasts longer than I do out on the ice.
OwatonnaHardH2O
Very happy LX6 user here. Ability to change color schemes is great. Being able to have a chart, dial, and vertical zoom all on one screen is awesome. Know of two guys upgrading from VX1P units to LX6's soon. Upgrades via a USB cable are a homerun too with Marcum, as they are rumored to be providing yet another firmware update soon.
brian6715
Update is supposed to come mid-December, has anyone heard anything? I agree with others, get a 7 if you can. I saw a place you could get them as low as $
CaptainMusky
You can also update the 7 with a camera later if you want. I dont know if this is the case anymore. They did this because the LX9 came out after the LX7, but I dont think its an ongoing deal.
DaSwede
I'm looking for a review on this unit. I'm very tempted, but don't want to waste $600 when I don't seem to have problems catching fish with my vx-1. Took my new LX-6 to LOW last weekend. I was really happy with it. Would the bigger screen of the LX-7 be better? Maybe, but to me it wasn't worth the extra $100. I could see the eye's just fine. I mostly used the vertical zoom and the dial to watch for any suspended fish (which there were none of). I'll be using it for panfish over the next couple days. I'm guessing it will be great for that too. You can find some deals that are better than $600.
gwiff100
As of November they are still converting 7's-9's, you would be looking at ~$500 to do it however...
d beyer
I talked to Marcum CS last week and while I had them on the phone I asked about the update and he said it should be out in the next couple of weeks. So I guess we are looking at early tomid January.
GoneFish'n71
Upgrade from lx7 to lx9 is still available on marcums HSOforum. If it were me i would get at lest the lx7 for the diff in price, if you can swing it go for the lx9 (you won't regret it)
picksbigwagon
I currently run a lx5, my son uses a showdown I bought used at a great price, I would upgrade in a heart beat if I can use it in my boat, anyone ever run the lx7 in a boat?????Yes. I have the cash set aside along with the sale of showdown, if the boy lets me sell it
Esox_Magnum
7 works nice on the boat, I do prefer my HDS over the 7 but works well...
Redlineracer12
Open water transducer is nearly $200, just throwing that out there so you can factor that into the price.I used my LX6 in the boat this year. It worked good except I had trouble with it picking up bottom in shallow water under 6' (it was bow mounted and I was mostly fishing shallow when using). Maybe I just need to play with it more. Northlander
O love my 6. I could have gone with the 7 but liked the size of the 6 better for hole hopping. Great graph and very versatile. Im happy with my purchase for sure. Plus I run it on the bowmount in the summer.
