RoldGold
I'm looking at getting a new jacket/bid set. I'm trying to decide between the Frabill and Ice Armor uninsulated sets. Just wondering if I could get a few opinions. Thanks!
Esox_Magnum
My buddy has the blue suit, said it's a waste of money, I wore the jacket once on the boat, wasnt warm by anymeans...
JohnMickish
I have to totally disagree.I have the blue suit and I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. waterproof and windproof. I use it in the boat in the spring and fall and it's a great rain suit as well. Very comfortable with pockets in all the right places. For an uninsulated suit I feel it's pretty darn warm. Brad B
Ice Armor all the way.
servocam
I went through this last year and for a lite suit, majority said Striker Ice Lite. I ended up getting the Frabill IceSuit (not a lite suit). Decided it as it fit much better and the hundreds of posts and reviews, I read, too many issues with the Ice Armor. I also have a North Face jacket if I want a lighter jacket for the day.
Scott O.
Can't go wrong with the blue Ice Armor suit. A little basic layering will keep you warm on most cold days. Have had mine for 4 years and it's still going strong. If I wear a sweatshirt underneath, I'm good for all day and most cold conditions. If it's below 10 degrees and windy lots of the time, then you may consider going up to the Ice Armor Extreme with more insulation than in the blue Edge system. harvey lee
May be a bit bulkier but I would go with the Frabil hands down.I own the AA, Striker, Ice Armour and the Sno Suit. I almost always wear my AA suit but when it gets real cold, out comes the Sno Suit. I have the 2 jacket Ice Armour suit from years ago and don't get me wrong, it surely is a nice suit. Ice_Ice_Baby
I've got a frabill suite on order, will report back with findings once I get a chance to try it out.
Corey Bechtold
I don't think you can go wrong with either suit. I like the Clam because it's easy to layer underneath to stay comfortable. I also wear the blue suit for open water applications. Price them out, try them on and let us know what you decide.Good fishing,Corey Bechtold
Esox_Magnum
Dont forget Striker to, newer in the ice market but a long history of cold weather gear.... My Striker Bibs are 5 years old and wore hard and still look great...They also offer different versions to best fit your needs as far as floating, insulation weight ect... Corey Bechtold
Very true. Might as well shop them all. See Tim Ferch at the Ice Show if your going. Great guy!
11fish1
I got the grey ice armor suit 4 or 5 years ago and it's great. You have pockets everywhere, big ones too, plus there's padding for your knees and butt, knee pads great when tip-up fishing. All you need to wear underneath is a t-shirt on most days. Rick G
You really can't go wrong with either suit. I own the Grey Ice Armor suit and do like it very much. I have friends that have the Blue suit as well as a couple different Frabill suits. I suggest you try on a couple suits from Frabill, Ice Armor and Striker at your local retailer and see what one suit fits you best.
RoldGold
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I thought I had a good idea as to which one I was going to get, but looks like I'll be making a trip to the store to do more "research"! mww24
i have the grey ice armor. bought it the first year it came out. its still going strong with no rips or issues. a guy i work with has an even older ice armor blue suit than mine and he likes it. i bet either euit will do its intended job. i would go try the ones your interested in and go with the best fit along with what suit seems to have better fabric and zippers. they arr spendy so i want mine to be tough and fit perfect. the ice show is a great idea. you will save money and be able to try all the options
pikerliker
I am considering buying a used Scheels brand ice suit (not sure who makes thiers?). I looked at some other suits (Frabil/ ice armor)for sale in Gander. I was surprised at how thin the material was on the jackets. It seemed like a light wind breaker. Does that really keep you warm out on the ice? Seems like a lot of money for a rain jacket/wind breaker to me when your looking to ice fish in Minnesota. RoldGold
Hey Piker, I've tried on the uninsulated Ice Armor. The material/thickness seems very close to my North Face jacket(also uninsulated) that I wear currently. I put a few layers under me and I'm good to go.
