Raider4ever
...but when I hear "My car doesn't 'handle' well in the snow." I think, "No, YOU don't 'handle' well in snow."?

fishing tech
Yep, I also look at the tires on what they are driving. Most cars now have a wider foot print which wants to float on the snow. Narrow tires tend to cut through the snow to pavement for better traction so to speak.

Then I would like to see you drive that 77 impala with firestone 721's on it that I used to have. That sucker would get stuck if someone dumped their mcdonalds cup of coke and ice on the street. JollyJoker
On the news you always hear that "the car lost control and went into the ditch" and I think: The DRIVER lost control and ended up in the ditch.
JOHNBIGDOG
The other side of this is if the car good mechanical condition. Are the tires good? (Psi, tread depth, type) is the suspension free of lose parts? Is the alignment out of spec? I have aligned a few focus, with darting issues, the rear toe spec is such that the front of the tire points inward. One tire has traction, one does not, this will cause the rear of the car to meander. Some times the driver Is at fault, sometimes its the drivers lack of maint. Capt. H (Ret.)
Isn't anyone going to say "YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS???" Geez, how many times have you seen a vehicle high centered and wondered why the dummy driving the vehicle even tried to go where "NO MAN HAS EVER GONE"??? I think it is safe to say that we have all probably been "stuck" at least once in our lifetime, however, I think the blame can be laid on each driver. Driving too fast or in conditions that would make many people stay off of the roads are just the basic reasons people find themselves in places they don't want to be. People take a drive to "Grandma's house" in shorts and flip flops and don't think a thing about the conditions until they are in the ditch without proper clothing, a shovel and sand."I can make it" yeh right!!!! Reminds me of a few trips from the MSP airport to Rochester in the middle of the night in a rental car when I really shouldn't have. Most memorable one was coming back from Boca Raton, Fl when a snowstorm closed the Rochester airport, and we were in St. Louis to change planes. Twas a friday night and there was the choice to go to MSP and drive, or stay in St Louis till the snow was dealt with in Rochester sometime on Saturday. I was in a raincoat, jeans, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes with no socks. (it was really nice in Florida)(you should have seen the girl in a bikini riding a pogo stick along the beach in Fort Lauderdale). Got into MSP sometime after midnight. No luggage. Headed to Rochester. Got south of Pine Bend and realized that it was bad idea, but had no choice.
