bwack
He could hardly swim. He had fishing line wrapped all around his wing and a hook through his foot.
dan z
White wing scoter
bwack
For the record I chased it without shooting for 15 minutes. He could dive for a short time but that's it. To clarify I thought it was a cripple that had been shot. I did not see the fishing line until I got it in the boat.
onthefly
I agree with white wing scoter. Also, agree that what you did was ethical and well within the law.
srj
Good job Bwack. That Scoter would have suffered a slow death had you not taken care of it. Not many hunters could differentiate scoters from ringnecks or bluegills on the wing. White wings are somewhat larger but the white wing patch makes them look like a large bluebill until they get very close. You did the right thing. waterfowl101
I would have done the same thing bwack done and i bet most other hunters would have shot it too!
JimmyJames
Cool duck Bwack. Same thing happened to me last year on a bird my son shot. Ignore the &%$#@*^'s , this site is full of helpful and informative people.
Huntin&Fishin
Bwack, forgot to mention that is quite the trophy here in MN. You might not ever shoot one again here in MN. Nice work!
luckycrank
Ive been hunting ducks for quite some time now 25 yrs roughly .i like to think im pretty sharp when it comes to waterfowling maybe not as sharp as some apperantly. Because after 25 yrs of hunting i cannot identify every species of waterfowl in flight every time . Most time yes ....And unless i am at limit for a specific species .its shoot first ask questions later . if im at limit of say pintails or woodducks scaup or mallards or such. then i would worry about whats at the end of my barrell if you can honestly tell me you know with out a doubt whats at the end of your barrel every time Before you pull the trigger your reflex's and eyes are way better than mine or your a dam Liar ! I ami have yet to go over my limit
TrapMan13
I agree as well. Way to take the time to recover something you didn't even get the opportunity to shoot in the first place! THATS NOBLE !
fishface
It looks like a Rudy duck,hen... How big was it? bigger than a mallard?

booger
It looks like a Rudy duck,hen... How big was it? bigger than a mallard? This is what I thought at first glance, but I've never seen either scoter or ruddy up close. Looks like the wing has some white which suggests it isn't a ruddy. That's about all I can think of. Unless it is a small bird...

fishface
Scooters are bigger than a mallard. Ruddys are the size of a Buffalo head.
