ice_medic
I love it even though I know that will not be my case here
tsande00
upvote!Sadly, I pulled my auger out of storage and it wouldn't start (first year this happened). Got to looking, and my gas line dried up and cracked in half. Kind of surprising since the auger is only a few years old.

Harvey posted his fix instructions if you need to look for them.
Lawrence Luoma
In three years with my Solo I had Strikemaster replace my fuel lines five times. Nothing worse that having it crack during tournament hours. Just part of a long list of horror story's with that auger. I started not running the gas dry for summer storage on all my augers and that has helped.
20lbSloughShark
I got my auger out of storage, and again it needs work. I have had it for 3 years now, and I have not had a year it worked. Once the carb got dirty, but every year, last year twice, the fuel line needs to be replaced. The gas tank design on the Mag III is absolutely awful. I'm looking into building a custom steel one next year.
Eric_Kruger
i got my auger down from summer storage yesterday, pulled and pulled, nothing......looked at it close, i forgot i had ran it out of gas last fall! lol Mixed up a tank, started second pull! lol
BartmanMN
Changed oil in my strike lite and it started on 2nd pull. I always use non oxy and I leave gas in the tank over the Summer. Typically I'll pour that gas into my lawn mower can and start the year with fresh fuel too.
Lusid
Speaking of augers, do you guys mix 50:1 or do you run the oil more lean?
broman
I mix 80:1 Amsoil. My SM Lazer Pro with the 3hp Solo is a bear to start if I don't start it for over a month. I need to do a little experimenting to figure it out what I'm doing wrong. Might be overpriming and flooding, I dunno. My old Jiffy with the TC motor started on the second pull all the time. Scott O.
I've got a 4 year old Jiffy STX Stealth model 34 myself. I usually take the gas out and store it in my basement over the spring, summer, and early fall. So far, this technique, while not recommended, has not affected the engine or the lines. Each Oct. I put fresh gas into it, and while it takes a few extra pulls, the ol' girl always fires up. Based on what I've read on this forum, I probably will not do this after this season and will leave some gas in it and run it once in a while. I attribute its durability to it being a great Jiffy auger and would certainly consider buying another in the future.
20lbSloughShark
40:1, its what strikmaster recomends. I usually just use my old dirtbike gas which is also mixed at 40:1.
Tom Batiuk
Some things that have helped me over the years to survive the woes of engines that only run intermittently in different seasons are:1) Run 91 octane non oxygenated gas. No ethanol. Ethanol is what reacts with your fuel lines to make them brittle and crack. Its more expensive but when you factor in maintenance costs........ pretty much sells itself.2) When your going to be done with it for the season the last few tanks of gas run a fuel stabilizer or Seafoam. I like Seafoam personally i have had great success with it.3) when it comes time to replace your fuel tubing use only TYGON tubing. Again its more expensive but I have a chainsaw that has been running for 15 years on that kind of line with no issues!I follow the first two rules and then do the third when I need to and I have very very little trouble with my seasonal gas powered equipment. My SM auger got put away with a full tank of fuel last spring and it started in just 2 pulls this year! Bring on the ice!
Eric_Kruger
I run a 100:1 mix of amsoil saber in mine. Set it up a gallon at a time with seafoam in it. I also run a lawnboy 2 stroke lawnmower and use my chainsaws frequently so I always have a need for mixed gas, so I always have fresh on hand. Greenhornet84
I have an Eskimo that I run 87octane with 10%ethanol. I keep fuel in it and start it a couple times a summer and it seems to do the trick, been starting every season. I did have to replace a fuel line last year. Redlineracer12
I grabbed my electra the other day, flipped the switch and pushed the button and it spun. Does that count?
McGurk
Finished blowing leaves in the yard and had to empty my tank. Put the remaining Amsoil 80-1 mixed gas (use it for everything!) into my auger and she started right up. Thought of this post immediately!
