sticknstring
Anyone catch this one today? Pretty funny. This week's publication has a guy saying "Don't allow bowhunters to alter deer hunting culture." Talks about a increasing emphasis on antler size and wonders if that's the direction our hunting culture should be headed. A little ironic as he's been practicing quality deer management for the past 7 years. He goes on to say how all the nice bucks taken by bow so far this year never got to pass on their genes in the breeding season. And that "no archer should be allowed to take a buck before breeding season that has more than three points on one side. Big bucks would get to pass on the big antler gene for future big bucks galore." Obviously this guy doesn't know that a buck's genetics will be the same whether he breeds as a yearling or as a 5 yr old. Quite a bit of irony and flaws in the article I thought. Give it a look and have yourself a good chuckle.
Stcloudangler
Yea, that will go far... sounds like someone needs to get a bow and shut the yapper...
96trigger
All a guy can do is laugh and shake their head, that is some quality entertainment. Kind of wonder what axe he is trying to grind, he was all over the place.
erikwells
That reminds me of another letter to the editor where a guy was questioning why the asian bighead carp are so bad because if us sportsman weren't so stupid we would realize what a great angling opportunity these fish could be. How do you guys get the zooplankton on your hook when you fish the asian bighead carp?
TruthWalleyes
That reminds me of another letter to the editor where a guy was questioning why the asian bighead carp are so bad because if us sportsman weren't so stupid we would realize what a great angling opportunity these fish could be. How do you guys get the zooplankton on your hook when you fish the asian bighead carp? That reminds me of half the archery hunters on here who think they should get multiple buck licenses and also require all other hunting methods to be pushed past the rut... LABS4ME
I agree with the author of that letter... we should lay waste to every buck with 6 or less points up until the breeding season... I mean they are scrub bucks anyways and will never amount to anything... then, after they are done passing on their superior genes, we can get after the big ones Mid-November! That way next year we can get after all those new 6 pointers and less (again pre-breeding) and then after they are done breeding, we can get after those yearling 140"+ trophys passed on down by the big ones the year before...You guys do realize when they shed their antlers, they become geneless and their genetic make-up totally converts to the size of the antlers they sport the following season don't you? I can't believe no one on this forum knows about this phenomenon. And if any of you think the Doe has anything to do with the gentic make-up of trophies you are just plain stupid! They don't have antlers... DUH! They are only incubators. Get a life. Ask around to some real deer hunters in the bar at night (you can pick em out... they still have orange on), but them a drink and pick their brains... it'll surprise you how much you can learn! orI think all you guys need to take a lesson or 3 in the QDM classes the author of that letter has taken. Then you won't come on here to make total fools of yourselves! Sheesh... genes are the same in a buck from yearling on... Seriously???? WOW! If that's true, how come the DNR releases a couple of big bucks into Whitewater and Ripley every year to keep the rack size up? I just learned they do that. But if they want to keep doing this, I too think they should do it the week gun season opens so they have a chance to breed one or two does before getting shot... I hate it when a bowhunter gets one of those bucks. Anyways, I'll get off my soapbox... you uneducated guys just keep ripping on this guy who obviously has the best interest of the herd at heart...Good Luck!Ken

sticknstring
Since when did they start stocking Ripley w/ big bucks?
LABS4ME
That's just what I heard... I also heard the egg collection in the fall is awefully expensive too. Aside from growing them for a year before release... But I think it will have a positive impact on the deer herd.Good Luck!Ken

sticknstring
Good to hear. I wasn't sure what to make of that! I wasn't sure if you were the author, publisher, or just a a disgruntled intoxicated reader!

Jameson
Reading everyone's responses here reminds me of the saying "love is blind" or whatever it is. Basically meaning that because you love something so much that you refuse to see the obvious.
