Went to Ontario and met my Buddy for some fishing..

Portaged into a decent sized lake. The portage hadn't been used in years obviously... be boated 4 good muskie Sat and 4 Sunday. The bite was slow BUT the fish we SAW is what is nuts. 22 fish sat and 25 sunday. From 20's to 46 inch...clear water and tons of islands. The fish chased every bait we tossed but preferred orange and black bucktail . Largest grabbed the hellhound..the 1mile hike carrying gear and motor was SO worth it. Heading back in a few weeks

What was the average size? Or maybe you can break it down fish-by-fish.

I've heard a few reports like yours over the years and I always wonder how big they are. Forty-some follows and eight fish in the boat in two days is incredible, ESPECIALLY if there were a couple/few 20 - 30 pounders.

Thanks for sharing.

I've read about portage and back country lakes in Ontario. I'm super tempted to go next year. Tales of follows on every cast and having more than one fish follow the same cast. It sounds so easy!

The avg size was mid 30's fish. The 46 was a nice thick pig . So many islands on the lake...every where you looked was a place to cast to. Nothing on weeds everything was on points and boulders. There's been 50 inchers off the lake I heard. Its 6-7 miles long and other than fly in visits not many people been on it. We only fished half the lake, ran out of time. Wish I had a go pro camera to video all the follows. . Many spooked at the boat and darted away. The 46 came at the hellhound gills flared and showing teeth lol. Me n my Buddy felt like giddy little kids fishing it. The first half hour we repeated "holy [PoorWordUsage] there's another one" a LOT LOL..It just never slowed. I've been going to Ontario couple years now n love it. 3rd trip of the year is next weekend for musky again

It is a blast when you get into them like that, had a weekend last year where we boated 16 and lost at least twice that many and missed many more....Even had we landed half of what we lost we could have put 35 easily in the boat and we didnt have to go to Canada LOL.... This year 5 was my best day on that body of water but had chances at 6-7 fish day if I could have kept them hooked or had someone to net for me....35-47 is my numbers for this year 41.3 was our average for that 1 weekend last year....Hope you get into them again the next trip.....

Cool story! Always nice when you get rewarded for a little extra effort. I've gone in to some portage lakes and had a blast. Just an all-around different experience...

The portage was bad..we ended up using chainsaw to get through. Storms must have knocked down trees and created quite a mess. I assume that's why no one had used it. We opened it up ..took all day but now folks can get in. Luckily there was an aluminum boat still there. We hauled in a six HP and fished in style lol

wow. I love fishing clear water and love fishing islands. Sounds like a dream.... Did u try throwing any tiny gear at em like bass or panfish baits? Trolling? sometimes on super clear water the ole chrome and blue or chrome and black bass size rattle trap on 8lb test will seduce many a muskie. Not that u dident catch plenty.

I would say 8 in two days is pretty darn good no matter where you are. Sounds like a blast.

Three years ago we boated 8 in one day on a metro lake, and that is no lie. In fact, we fished that same lake 4 times that year, and caught 21 fish. Haven't been able to match it since.

Would a guy be able to get up that trail this winter for lakers?? We'll be up in January. I'm assuming you need to go through a narrow lake to get there... If it's the lake I'm 90% sure you were fishing, it's been on my radar for a few years but have not done yet due to all the other portage lakes I have yet to fish. Sounds like a great time!! Congrats on the successful trip! Just don't let the MNR catch you in that boat! wink
