Surf scooter hunting in the Canadian Arctic

Recommended Posts

Native people are permitted "subsistence" hunting and fishing privileges across most of AK and artic CN. I'm guessing that is what the video is all about. Sport or "fair chase" has nothing to do with true subsistence hunting/fishing; the object is to take food or fur that will help you make a living out there.

My guess is that most of the folks that hang our around these Forums wouldn't like it much out in that part of the world. LOL

Thanks for posting Muskrat, but if you hadn't picked up on it by reading the above posts, almost everything about what you do in this video is illegal in pretty much all of the lower 48.

Never mind the sarcastic comments. If this is legal for you, then by all means, feed your family and enjoy the bounty. I think there's just a few guys here that wish they could hunt using the same methods! Ha ha ha... laugh

Yah by golly, that aerial shooting of hogs with full auto's just makes you proud to call yourself a sportsman doesn't it?

Like selecting the buck you can afford from the ranches menu, paying the tab and then being ferried out to where you can shoot it. Ya got $2500?, well that's gonna git you a 225 point buck!

Or you can sneak up on a flock of mallards and blast into them while they are on the water! Great duck huntin'.

It takes all kinds nowadays. But glad it ain't you n' me. laugh

You are more than welcome to come up sit in the flooded delta in water still running ice and wait for ducks to come to you. There are no grain fields here to draw them in let me assure you. You will have a long cold boring night, but at least you will not have to worry about sun down closings because it never gets dark. But your a fellow duck hunter so in my book you are a good guy. More power to you.

muskrat411 some have feelings that if its not legal for them it should be against the law for everyone and the sad part is most of them will never change how they do things.

Thanks for the videos and introducing us to your way of life. I would love to hunt in the land of the midnight sun and you my friend made me add it to my bucket list. grin

No no no Gordie! I am not knocking the way rat is shooting stuff. Trust me, I KNOW about subsistence hunting in the Arctic. BUT....it is clearly not the way things are done down here in the flatland.

As far as YOU heading on up to do that, don't buy a plane ticket just yet. Fact is, YOU could not hunt like that!! Ha Ha Ha. First, you not a resident second you not qualified to subsistence hunt.

The practice of shooting birds on the ground or on the water is-or used to be-frowned upon. As far as shooting hogs from the air with full-auto weapons that is just more of that heathen backwoods mentality at work. Those of us who claim to be REAL sportsmen do not practice these methods.

It is legal, I get a lot of requests for caribou sheds and grizzly skulls stuff like that but shipping anything Canada Post is so expensive its not really worth my time. I would like to help you out, but I have set or two behind my shop.
