DTro
Again, not taking sides, I can honestly say that I had 4 unique PM's from guys that have LX7's asking me questions about the 28 in regards to them possibly selling their Marcum and buying the Vex because there were some things that they didn't like about the 7.When people finally understand there is only so many ways to spin sonar technology is when the flasher wars will subside. Its all the same technology just different ways to display it. There should be many factors that go into a person choosing a flasher:PriceFeaturesHow you will be using itAccessories availableWarrantyAppearanceUser Interfacejust to list a few... gwiff100
only complaint I have with the LX7 is when fishing with FL 8's near by, I don't get too much interference just more difficult to locate my jig when messing with i.r. and sensitivity.any other sonar it works great with. Fur Fish and Feathers
After much consideration between the FLX-28 and the LX-7, I ended up with the LX-6. My only complaint of the LX-6 is the flashing scale bar tic marks in chart mode (which I believe they'll have fixed in a future software release). Considering the things the LX-6 has (such as chart mode) and the things it doesn't have (annoying mechanical hum) I haven't had any second thoughts about my decision. The only FL-28 feature that really piqued my interest was the weed mode and the LX-7 is just too big. I have a couple of FL-8's that have served me well for the last 10-15 years and, all things being equal, I probably have more brand loyalty to Vex....but stepping back I don't see anything that's all that revolutionary with the FLX-28 to justify the additional cost. I just hope the LX-6 lasts me as long as my FL-8's have.
NCLaker
I'm a Vex guy ... typically don't like to buy first year technology, like to give them a year to get the bugs out. But couldn't take it anymore and went ahead and pulled the trigger on a new FLX-28. Between this thread and an online deal that included a $100 gift card I had to do it - after selling my FL-22 the gift card only cost me $55 to upgrade ... not bad imho. I was almost tempted to get the LX-7, they are pretty cool. But I love the design of the pro pack II (love the rod holers for hole hopping, tackle box, fits in a 5 gallon bucket and not too heavy, etc .. still can't figure out why other manuactures don't have these types of options). LX-7 was just to heavy, awkward to carry, and just plane big for my style of fishing. Despite the LX-7 cool factor, I went the FLX-28 route. I also like the fact that if I ever have a problem, I can run across town and Vexilar customer service will take care of me no questions asked. Only bummer is I'll have to wait until next week for delivery
mamohr686
Tom's right on this, the 28 is everything the 22 should have been. The whole tri-beam22 fiasco really was a pita for me and many folks willing to enjoy their passion. The vex bar has been raised, there are nice new features and improvements. That said, it's a bit hard to deny the irony in Vex's biggest new improvement in the last decade being a single beam renamed narrow beam transducer. Now there's marketing cheese at its finest. ....marketing cheese... LOL Call me part of the Fl-22HD tri-beam fiasco. I bought a unit last spring on close out. On my last trip (I'm guessing my 5th outing) with the new unit this is my transducer. My guess is that water froze on the inside of the transducer causing it to crack like that. It was never dropped or banged into anything! Pat from vexilar customer service has agreed to swap it out for the new Proview 19 degree ice-ducer. I'm sending it out Monday. Is anyone having the same issues with the tri-beam units on the FlX-28? Anyone tried a proview transducer on an older unit?
LakeDocktor
The FLX-28 comes standard with the Pro View transducer. Last year, I used the Pro View on my FL-18 and it works the same as my 28 with the Pro View, awesome!
