ANTS EVERYWHERE

Recommended Posts

so this spring my yard was full of ant hills. i have got the outdoor ants undercontrol. Since i got out side under control they have migrated into my house! [Note from Admin. Please review forum policy before posting again. Thank You.] i know i can buy stuff from any store just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what product you used to get rid of them...

You need to attack them from two sides. First sprinkle Spectracide around the entire foundation, paying extra attention at doors, windows and other areas they may be coming in. Then place poison traps that are intended to kill the nest inside where you are seeing them and throughout the house.

I had the exact issue last year and this took care of them within a week. Mine was so bad that one night I woke up and found my entire bathroom sink black and moving as I believe they were after the mouthwash I spit out.

Seems like every few years ants decide they're going to try to make my home their home.

Still try Taro up front, but that almost seems to lure more in. Ultimately it's supposed to be brought back to the nest to kill them but that can take some time. So, used to use Diazinon but since that was banned for residential some years back, I've found Demon works OK.

When this happens I mix up a batch of Demon and spray a foot or so up the foundation and a couple feet of the ground adjacent to it. Stops them pretty quickly.

Please keep in mind the impact some of these "potions" might have on other innocent creatures. We have the foundations, porches and outbuildings treated in the spring and fall by professionals. We have been able to make the Japanese Beetles ( Tojo's Revenge) and the dreaded Bag Worms pay the price.

We are really fussy about what gets sprayed or spread around our grounds.

They can? Ha Ha.

And Who....obviously you get the thrust of my note. I simply want ALL of us to be aware of what we put into the world we live in. Am not a fanatic about it, but I sometimes see folks who are too casual about dumping this or that to solve a small problem and not being aware of the long term downstream impacts i.e., you put something on ground to kill bug A but it remains in the ground to kill bugs B and C which are "good" bugs.

We all need reminders from time to time that we are just "renting" the earth around us and we will be here and gone very quickly.

The best stuff I use is tempo it works fast and last for months will also get rid of alot of other insects. The price is expensive but when works and last a long time its worth it.

+1

I started using Tempo this year and am very pleased with it. Lots of black and carpenter ants this spring, sprayed the foundation and about 3 feet up the sides and haven't seen any since.

We got them bad this spring at our cabin, I was also concerned about what I was putting down, so I called in the pros. Our cabin is really close to the lake, so I was concerned with run off from rain storms. These were carpenter ants and from what I read are a little bit more difficult to get rid of. If the problems persists call a pest control company, if you tried a bunch of over the counter stuff, you probably could've paid for the pros to do it by now. 2c

FWIW, both Demon and Tempo are types of synthetic pyrethroids. EXTREMELY toxic to fish and other aquatic critters.

Good call on the pro in that situation.
