46and2
Anyone have any advice for spots near Sandstone on the Kettle River or St. Croix to target sturgeon specifically? I pick them up quite a bit in my usual spots on the Kettle (smaller fish so far, biggest was 40" but as you know, the Kettle fish are real skinny) and a few on the Croix.Basically looking for some ideas once the fall comes around. JBMasterAngler
There is no open season on sturgeon on the kettle or st. croix (upstream of taylors falls) river. So it would be illegal to target them.

Ah, so where do people go in the fall to catch them on the St. Croix? Taylors Falls?
bobbymalone
a lot of people work the bayport area and on down. I'm betting they are tough to target from shore though.

50inchpig
just find a deeper hole you'll be in the money, anyplace you fish cats i'm sure is fine. sturgeon just kind of show up in those upriver holes in september and are usually pretty active around walleye opener in the spring. popping the head off of a fathead and throwing it on with your worm will increase your chances of accidentally catching a sturgeon. just be sure to let out a loud "ah shucks" and look really disappointed when you hook one just in case "the man" is watching (or any other person that thinks it's any of their business) seriously though, it's time for some major regulation reform when it comes to sturgeon and cats. it's a shame there isn't a longer c&r season on the croix for the sturgeon, although nobody ever got a ticket for soaking a worm on the bottom of a river.
