SkunkedAgain
I saw this online and it was quick and healthy:- slice potatoes thin, either with knife or a cheese slicer- put on a sheet of parchment paper- spray with cooking spray, or rub with oil- season with any combination salt, pepper, vinegar, spices, cheese, etc.- microwave on high for 3-5 minutes, until the chips are golden brown. These came out looking good, firm texture, and tasted exceptionally well. Deitz Dittrich
really?... you tried it yourself? I find it hard to believe that it would work in the micro.. may have to try it.
ThunderLund78
Does the oil you apply actually crisp them when it gets hot? I too would think that they'd be soggy. Guess I'll have to try it for myself!
alleyes
Curious as well, how thick of slices?
LABS4ME
Used to do this all the time for my kids... they are awesome!I used paper towel on a ceramic plate when I made them. They really do turn crunchy.Good Luck!Ken
SkunkedAgain
The recipe that I saw said to do it for 5 minutes, I stopped it just shy of 4 minutes because they were really starting to brown. My wife loved them and I thought they were good too. The spray didn't make them soggy at all. The recipe said to spray each one individually but I just did a sweeping motion. As for thickness you should shoot for somewhere between 1/16" and 1/8" depending on how you like the results. KEN W
What kind of potatoes did you use? Most chips are made with russets and chipping potatoes because they have less starch than reds.Yukon Gold would work well doing this.Gotta try it. SkunkedAgain
Actually, I just used some reds that I had sitting around from the farmers market
nofishfisherman
I saw this yesterday and was skeptical as well. But I tried it last night with dinner and it did in fact work and was really good. I ended up having to cook them a little longer (maybe 6-7 minutes) but they did crisp up really nicely. I also did them in 2 batches as it seems like its better to keep them in a single layer so they aren't laying on top of each other at all. The first batch I did I sprayed both sides of the potato, the second I only sprayed one side lightly and that was what produced the crispier chip. When I told the wife what I was doing she was skeptical as well but curious. In the end we both liked them and will have to add it into the rotation. They went really well with the chicken salad we had for dinner. SkunkedAgain
Good clarification. I should have mentioned that I only sprayed one side and kept them in a single layer as best I could. I'm glad that you liked them
