6.7 stroker

Anything bad about these yet? Pops just picked one up last week, and I am seriously looking into one if the bank gives me the OK to get rid of the 6.0.... everyone I talk to gives them a thumbs up...

Not many issues with them, the bad Nox sensors seem to have been filter out, a few have had radiators leak, I have seen two turbos replaced due to a "flutter" concern during certain driving conditions. It seems that the upfitter trucks have had a few issues just due to modifications by the body companies. Everything has been covered under warranty. highest mileage I have seen in 99k and still trucking strong.

thats pretty consistent with what I have been hearing... took dads for a spin tonight... its a peppy bugger! but the 6.0 has been so poor the last 12 months i forgot what a truck with balls should drive like...

It has ballz! It can literally pull a house. As for reliability, I would say it is the best diesel Ford has made in 10 years.

I get very few complaints on them, as Birdog said, nox sensors, but the problem ones have already been replaced by now anyhow. If I were in the market for a diesel, I would be buying a 6.7

PF, I know there are a few loyal Dodge Cummins guys on here, but personally having access to warranty, and cost of repair per vehicle, and number of warranty visits per vehicle under warranty, the beloved Cummins actually comes in 3rd among the big 3. Sorry to burst your bubble there. I also deal with mechanics daily that need to repair them, most arent to fond of them either.

Go ahead and blast away, tell me how your favorite brand is the best, because you own 1. You give me any new model vehicle, and I wont swear by any of them, they all have some problems, some more then others. This is why I usually tell people to buy the one that is most comfortable to drive, and one that fits "your" driving habits. In other words, dont buy a midsize to pull a skid loader trailer. If some one asks specifics on a certain model, I usually give them a honest educated opinion of it. I know more about Fords then other models, but I have the same info on the other models as I do the Fords. I will honstly tell you from 04-10, the Cummins had the lead(best ratings among the top 3) in customer complaints, and cost per repair, in 2011 they lost that.

Don't look that deep into it, I was just razzing you a bit. wink I actually think the Duramax is a heck of a motor and a great truck. Having been around Fjords enough I am certainly not as fond of them as you are but I do hope the new motor works out well for them. The last two though were POS IMO. The 7.3 was a good motor except the FE was not good. All trucks have good and bad points. Having owned all 3 major brands I haven't found one without faults.

But that isn't going to stop me from giving you dump if the opportunity presents itself gringrin

I am with you on the past 2, the 6.0, and the 6.4 strokes were junk. The 6.7 has been a promising motor, and Ford over all in the past 3 years have came a long way, and have improved much more then the other brands have.

I have also seen Dodge vehicles(non diesel) have improved a quite a bit in the past year or so, since Fiat has bought them out. They also are starting to get a decent line up.

GM has some new much needed change coming soon in their line ups. That also are looking promising.

All in all, I am still impressed most by the EcoBoost engine in the Fords. Chevy has its new comparable engine line coming out soon, lets hope they have the success that the Fords had. The US market in the top 3 has been so low in the past decade, but they have improved a lot in the past few years, and IMO taken over the lead in reliability, and customer satisfaction. But some of those numbers are skewed by each manufactures requirements on the surveys.

The one thing for me is that while ford used to be the working mans truck in the way they were built and equipped they have gone quite glam with their recent trucks IMO as Chevy did before them. I am not much of a leather interior, push button, bells and whistles kind of guy and the oe thing I like about Dodge is they generally have nice, simple, big buttons you can operate with gloves on. Chevy has had some really wacky dashboard and control layouts over the years and ford has seemed to trend that way too. Nothing wrong with it but not my cup of tea.

And as far as the CTD- I would prefer not to have the whole exhaust filter thing they put on there as that is the one big chink in the motor. Anyways- Yeah, I hope the 6.7 blue oval is a good motor. My feeling is the better that it is, the more pressure it puts on the other 2 to improve theirs and that is always a good thing.

Did they fix the low fuel economy problems with the new motor?

A ton of power, and pretty good milage from what I can see so far. I hope the computer isn't lying to me, but after 500 miles its says I'm averaging 16.8 mpg. My longest trip has been 35 miles pulling a small trailer with a John Deere gator. I haven't hooked a big trailer up to it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing how well it handles it.

i am averaging about 14 with mine with the towing I do... which i a few MPH better than my 6.0... The best I have seen is 21 almost 22 babying it on the highway... My dad bought one as well and I think he is averaging around 17 and drives mostly shorter trips to work without towing... I am pulling almost every day or every other at least and have put almost 4000 + mile on since I bought mine... Happy with it so far... I hate the tiny fuel tank... Seams awfully retarded to me... I have to fill at LEAST every other day, if not every day... My 6.0 with the long box had around a 35 gallon tank which was nice... that is my only complaint about the truck. And it makes some funny noises I havn't figured out when I shut it off... seems as though some sort of pump runs for a bit... havn't figured out yet what it is...

Here is a shot of it ready to go for a stretch... after the additions where made... step bars, flaps, fuel tank, tool box, back rack with lights, and the company logo... coming still will be the plow and chrome rocker panels... as well as some sort of window vents/deflectors... I also put in FIA custom seat covers front and rear.... very happy with them... When with charcoal, which actually looks very nice...

Nice fuel mileage. It looks like they did a good job with this motor to try to get up there with Chevy and Dodge and those numbers are respectable. I just put an H and S tuner on mine 2 weeks ago and just about fell over at the mileage I am pulling now.
