Outhouse pit nearly full - has anybody tried enzymes?

Hey all,

My uncle's hunting/fishing shack outhouse is about topped off. He suggested I buy some enzyme mix from Fleet Farm and put it in the pit while the water levels in the soil are still high.

Does anybody know if this will help to lower the waste in the outhouse? Or if we'd be better off digging a new pit and moving the outhouse?

Thanks

I should also mention the pit has been there for about 22 yrs. We currently use lime but my uncle has heard that enzymes will help the bacteria in the pit break everything down. I am thinking it's about time to dig a new one but it sure is a lot of work.

Enzymes will take years to eat that much.I'd either see if can be pumped that will need onsite water and someone to loosen it as the pumper gets it down.If it were mine I'd start digging and relocate the existing house to the new hole. Then add enzimes everyother year with water.

Got a quote on the pumping and it's only $100. Considering it's a 5 hour drive up north and when we're up there it's not to work (usually just cut the grass or cut firewood), I'd say that's a fair price. smile Thanks for the suggestions.

Pannyraid, my uncle owns land in Togo, MN.

Honestly not sure who he hired for the job, but I had expressed concern that enzymes wouldn't be able to eat through such a big mound of waste... you guys confirmed it.

He did some research and said he got somebody out of Effie to do it.

Might be these guys?

You could hop on google and just search for septic service +town name (either where you're at or nearby towns)
