Battery Question?

Recommended Posts

I have to say the OE batteries have a good record of longevity, for a few bucks more in most cases. Otherwise Interstate would be my second choice.

Like I said, I think the OE batteries are the best. After that I would go Interstate, and Napa, mostly because they are close by.

As far as the DieHards, I havent been to fond of them in the past 7-10 years, but that may be just what I have seen.

4WE I would say the same exact thing. Nothing lasts like an OEM battery and mainly because they are the best ones made and meet and exceed the factory standards/requirements during manufacturing.

Even though I have heard they changed manufacturers/vendors in the last fews, which by the pricing increase could be true, I recommend not buying a Walmart battery f you plan to use that battery past 12 months. Even though the warranty is rather easy to execute and obtain a new battery, it just sucks having to do this every 6-12 months when you can buy an OEM and have it last for 7+ years with absolutely no concerns.

The battery I am liking and I would have to say is the best battery I have found is the Optima sealed gel batteries. Even though they are spendy I bought one on sale a few years back for a spare/shop battery and it has been a great experience so far. I even use it for ice fishing and no acid leaking has been a very big positive. Sealed "wet" batteries no matter how you do it still seem to leak some amount of acid and the worst is when it mixes with more water and turns that into acid. crazy

Personally, I've never seen the benefit of paying top dollar for a battery. Oh, sure, you may get a year or two more out of it but for twice the price the life isn't usually twice as long.

The batteries I get from local Fleet/Farm type store generally go about 5 years for meaningfully less than $100.

my 05 500, with 250,000 miles on it, had the factory battery in it when I purchased it. and our factory battery has a much better warranty than the others too.

You get what you pay for eh.

I know the OEM are the pretty good. My last one lasted 12 years. I was just trying to find the opinion on newer off market stuff, as the manufacturing techniques have improved over time. May be I'll stick with delco then.

Thanks for input!

Sometimes you don't get what you pay for, or you pay too much for what you get. grin

It is rare that you get what you don't pay for.

So far my experience with Fleet Farm batteries has been positive. There is the philosophy of "run it until it leave you sitting on the side of the road" vrs. "replace the battery after some period of time, like 5 years, whether it needs it or not"

I am in the latter camp.
