thatoneguy
So. I've never used a jerkbait before, but I'm thinking with the chillychilly water temps we're going to have for this year's opener, I might give em a whirl.Any favorite jerkbaits, tips for use, line & reel used etc? dan z
Husky jerks are my favorite jerk bait. The suspended stops are dynamite on bass and pike!
jalberg
I've never really used them in the spring as the water is usually fairly warm by bass opener. I have had days in mid to late fall when they were all I could get them on. They could definitely be a factor this spring, especially in your neck of the woods. I throw husky jerks on a 7' medium power fast action spinning rod with 6-8lb flouro. The husky jerks don't have a weight transfer system in them so I feel they cast better on spinning gear. Some of the other ones with the weight systems that cast better I would use a casting rod. My 2 cents.
bassfshin24
I love to use them in the spring and fall. I usually use suspending rogues and xraps. I have a hard time spending $15 on a lucky craft jerkbait...especially since pike love them too. I throw mine on a 7ft M spinning rod with 8lb fluoro. BTL
I catch a lot of smallmouths and some largemouths on jerkbaits after the opener every year. IMO, they're the most effective lure for finding prespawn/spawning smallmouth. Pointers are my favorite, but they all work.
beeflover
I agree with you bassfish24, I've lost too many rogues and husky jerks to pike. I fish plastic jerkbaits a lot more the last 10 years or so. If you want the best jerkbait, those Mega Bass jerkbaits are fantastic but I don't want to loose $24 a crack for those things.
