86 shorelandr trailer hub and bearing?

slick2526

Question

I am having trouble finding the specs for sizes of new hubs, bearings, washer, cotter pin, and dust caps.

Went to the shorelandr HSOforum and found the exact model of my trailer but nothing to do with part specs. I want to have one full hub assembly on hand and replace/repack the bearings on the trailer and put on new dust caps

here is the specs

VIN Number: 1MDACCS13GE279575

Frame/Model: R12S 2X3

Model Year: 1986

Finish: WHITE

Mfg Date: 05/20/1986

Like I said I cant figure how to find the specs out from the site and I hope one of you can help me out. I don't have the trailer at home right now So I don't have any way of looking at it and figuring it out. thanks

Trailer bearings are somewhat standard. There are a handful of common sizes. IMO, the easisest way to figure it out is pull one of the hubs and measure. The bearings will be measured by the inside diameter of the bearing or the outside diameter of the axle. 3/4, 1, 1 1/16, 1 3/8, and 1 3/4 inch are the common sizes.

The seal is measured the same inside diameter of the seal or outside diameter the sealing surface.

Once you know the bearing size you can find a complete hub with your bolt pattern. Or you can find bearing kits complete with bearings, races, seal, nut, washer, and cotter pin.

If that manual is the correct one then your good to go.

Otherwise you'll remove the hub and bearings and write down the part # on both bearings.

If both inner and outer bearing are the same then you have a straight axle which is usually the case with boat trailers.

If the numbers are not the same then you have a tapered axle.

When you go to buy the kit or hub it'll go by size, 3/4, 1, 1 1/16, 1 3/8.

The numbers on your bearings can be cross referenced to which size kit or hub.

Better yet take one set with you and make sure that the ones you are going to buy are the same size. I have had trouble a couple of times getting a new outer cap to go onto the hub. Northern had what looked to be the correct size but it was a scotch too small. Very irritating.

had the same problem Tom and I even brought my bearing to Northern...got home half our drive later and had to turn around and go back to get another one. Now I have back-ups pre-packed hub/bearings and all in the boat so I won't forget the size and have a easy fix back up!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
