Minnkota question

I have a 50pd bowmount. The protective plastic over the wires from powerhead to base is cracking. it is an older motor, any ideas on a fix? Thanks

If its made of abs plastic, you could try softening it up with some acetone and squishing it back together.

Or the JB weld folks make some stuff for plastic.

Original JB weld would probably work also.

If you need something flexible, Dow 700 seems like it would do the job.

Call an authorized MinnKota servicer with your model and serial number. If it is not too old, they will get you a new one. Guess I think I'd rather have an intact wire harness than something patchworked when it comes to wires.

Thanks for the ideas. I am going to see if I can get a replacement. The thing is cracking all over. Just old and maybe too much (sun) exposer from previous owner? Maybe a good reason to upgrade?

Cicada has the right idea. I fixed mine with liquid plastic but it only lasted a year. My motor is 12 years old so I'll be looking for a new one this spring.

Order a hunk of TechFlex (braided sleeve) or corrugated split loom to put over it. May be able to find a short hunk of the corrugated loom at an auto supply store.

Now I realize he was talking about the insulation on the wires. I misunderstood what he was talking about. Sorry. Never mind.

They do sell some sort of "liquid electrical tape"

Go to the MinnKota web site and get a list of authiorized service centers and contact a couple nearest to you, they may have a set of wires salvaged from a DOA unit that can be used much cheaper. May even offer you a trade in deal to upgrade or like how I got my new unit they sell factory refurbished units much cheaper with full warranty.

"Is cracking all over," it sounds like it was coated with ArmourAll at one time. Everything (ex-rubber) I ever put that stuff on, cracked.
