used sled question

Looking at buying a 98, Indy trail 488 fan, for my kids to play with. It has 2500 miles on it for around $1000.00. Haven't owned a sled in 15 years or so. Don't know much about sleds, good deal or not? Thanks...

Cigarguy,

I owned 2 1996 Indy Trails for 13 years. They were great. sold mine in one day with over 6K miles on them for 650 apiece in 2009.

You would be getting a good sled, the 488 is as solid as they come. And there are tons of spare parts around if you need them in the future as that engine was used for along time in several models.

When my 10 year old can drive, i will be looking for one of my own.

I'd offer 8 cash and see where it goes from there.

Still looking. Prices are coming down as season is winding down. Would you guy's buy a sled that has the motor rebuilt that in good shape, without a lot of total miles on it? What is the approx cost to rebuild a motor? Why so many MXZ's? Guess, I could say the same about XLT's, but I've owned one smile.

Stay away from triples. Especially anything older than a 2000 the oil lines weren't big enough in most of them and they blow up and people rebuild them and they blow up again for the same reason.

Rebuilt motors are a nightmare imh new parts with old parts don't match up for very long
