North Dakota or Michigan

Merk,

I had a group of guys from Michigan this season. What they told me is the following.

They were central in Michigan by Big Rapids. They said there is allot of pressure from people. and big pike for them is 30". Alot of anglers out there running tip ups and jiggin. Now they said the U.P. is much better. see some monsters up there. Also you can buy a Musky tag and can harvest one of those critters too. But its only on select lakes and I beleive it has a minimum size on them.

I Don't know allot about Dakotas, other than North Dakota opened up allot of lakes now, if not most of them to spearing.

hope this helps

We are going to Wabay, Enemy swim and Blue Dog. You need tracks or a snowmobile to get out, lots of snow.

Merk has got the machine to get out along with hauling everything everybody else needs to spear and he wears his flip flops driving it grin

Devils lake merk the water is clear from the reports I got from my guide friend in Minnewaken, NoDak. Lots of pike for you spearing pleasure.

Wabay is also a great lake I was out fishing perch on that body of water 10-12 years ago and they were pullin up some mighty pike toothys on tip ups at the time.

In michigan muskgie are still one a day over 42" starting next season its one a season with a free dnr metal tag. Spearing is free as part of your fishing permit. I'm going smelt spearing this weekend, I just made a 11 tine 5" spear. cool

I hope you have long arms if you're using a 5" spear!

I fished bitter by Waubay last spring and caught a lot of northerns pitching jigs for walleyes. Size range was between 2-7 lbs. Thats a great fishing area, to bad the algae gets so thick after the water warms up or I would make more trips down there.

2-5 pounders is what I target so that sounds good.

Is it clear enough to spear?
