Spinning rod?

fishadb

Question

Are there any rods that have a lifetime warranty? Most of my fishing in summer is done by lindy rigging and I always use braid so I end up breaking one rod each year it seems. The only rod I haven't broke is my ugly stick but I only use that for pulling plugs because it is not very sensitive and it isnot very comfortable to hold. Wouldn't mind spending a lot if I could get something that would last.

I think you need to address why you are breaking a rod, rather than looking for a rod that will not break. I fish 5-7 days a week during the summer months. And maybe break one rod every 3-4 years.. and in which case, its been TOTALLY my own fault.

As rods get higher quality and lighter and more sensitive, the walls of the rod get thinner, and they get more brittle. Its why your ugly stick doesnt break, just as you state, its not very light or sensitive. And thus you have to treat them differently.

I would change your habits first, then look for a quality rod, or they will just keep breaking.

I agree with Deitz. I don't fish as much as he does but still a fair amount and I can only think of one rod I broke in my life that was not my fault. OK - one was my dog's fault so there are 2 rods that were not my fault but only one that was a manufacturing issue. If you get snagged up with a braid you cannot jerk the rod very hard to get the snag out as the braids have no give like mono. I point the rod to the snag, tighten the drag and pull. Something will give without it being your rod.

Yes, those high modulus rod blanks are a bit fragile.

I do not believe I have broken a rod in the boat for 5-7 years. I am very careful with the rod tips especially on the light and UL rods. I fish at a minimum 3-4 days a week in the summer, not as much as Mr Dietz, but close.

I will keep using the super sensitive rods and if I break one, I guess I break one.

Just try and be a bit more careful and you should be fine. You do not need a steel pole to not break them.

Being a custom rod builder I like to remind my customers that blanks have a rating that's representative of the load carrying capacity of the blank. When you use braids remember to look at the line rating, braids have diameter equivalents, but strength ratings can exceed the blank rating. As mention in other posts high end blanks will carry good warranties but avoiding the need to use them is best. I like St Croix rods and blanks. Good fishing

I always used braid for pulling blades and have never broke a rod with braid. One simply cannot lay the wood to it to get the hook free from whatever.

I use all braid on my trolling rods to pull cranks and have yet to break one. I use to use mono but too many pike broke me off so I switched to braid and it has worked fine. Just have to use the correct rod action.

Have apiece of wood or dowel in the boat and wrap the line around the dowel and then pull to get free, try not to use the tip of the rod and you should cure your rod breakage issues.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
