Trump34
Since mine is used for measuring fish too I figured what the heck and put a tape measure on it just to make sure. It is reading a full 1/2" short the entire length of the ruler. So just a friendly reminder to check yours too and avoid any issues with those slot fish and our friendly enforcement officers out there. TruthWalleyes
Good reminder. My rule of thumb is if it is within a half inch, fish swims again. Just my way of playing it safe.
Hawg
Good heads up. I don't think a warden would accept that as an excuse, I better check mine.
schmoe147
Make sure you are using a good quality tape measure when checking, I've seen those cheap tape measures be off 1/8" every inch. That can be off a lot the longer the fish.
Stick in Mud
Hmmm...thanks for the heads up. That's what I've been using to measure my fish for a while now.
pulsar_nx
I think they do it to keep us fishermen more honest. Say you caught a twelve inch crappie, well that becomes a fishermen's fourteen. With the dipper that would be 11 1/2 and a fishermen's 13 1/2", which is much more believable.
traveler
I was on a lake with a slot limit a couple years ago and got checked...one of my fish went just a hair over...which was weird because I was leaving at least a 1/4 inch leeway, and measuring with a tape I got from the IGFA (international game fish assc.) I showed it to the CO, who was sympathetic as he could see we were trying to follow the law. We looked closely at the tape...the numbers started exactly 1/2 inch from the very end, unlike EVERY tape measure I've ever seen! And, it was right where your thumb was when you held the tape! Even though the CO saw this, I was pretty sure I was gonna get a ticket anyway, but to my surprise he came back over and said he was going to let it slide, he just took the fish and made me promise not to tell anyone:) Which I haven't until now. Must be a statute of limitations... That tape went in the trash...
nonteepical
if a co was to give you carp over an honest mistake i'd ask the a hole for his certification sticker from mn dept. of weights and measures for his tape measure he used.
