coombia21
I just got a new otter lodge and now it won't fit inside my pickup with my tonneau cover frame. I want to be able to shut my tailgate so things do not slide out of the back of the truck. What would be the best way to do this? Should I build a platform to elevate the house? Thanks
Jeremy airjer W
I sue to have to lift up the back of my house so that the lip would sit on top of the tailgate when it was shut. In my case the best way to resolve the issue was to get a new truck that the house fit in.
cableguy2
Or sell the house. I am always looking for a deal. My brother has the same problem with his clam, just waoting for him to offer it to me.
fishnowworknever
how far does it stick out?
crappiekid
i built a ramp (wedge) to gain a raise of 6 inches to get my tail gate shut. I have a 4 door gmc 1500 regular box. i took a 2x6 and turned it on edge. I then screwed a 2' long and 40" wide sheet of plywood to it.(measure up to the back of your wheel wells or else it will slide forward....) i slide the frabill in and then shove this under the house. It provides support to the base of the shelter so it does not sag, warp, or crack whne it is cold and i have items stacked inside the sled. good luck
fishnowworknever
That's what I was going to suggest as well^^ Wasn't sure if it stuck out or it was too wide...
Fishin4fun_MN
I just leave my gate down and ratchet strap and bungee my portable and auger in.
coombia21
I am not going to sell the house, and I have had issues with the edge of the house fraying when not being contained within the tailgate. I had a resort that frayed because it would flap in the wind. I guess I am just going to have to build a platform for the box. It is with in an inch i can shut the tailgate but it puts a lot of pressure against the frame of the house.

RiverChuckNorris
Reason# 1 not to buy a truck with four doors Bought a 4 door, short box (5.5 ft) F150 last year. Got the "tail gate extender" option on it so I could fit my Frabill Predator in the back with the tonneau cover on AND the truck still fits in the garage. Slicker than snot. Regardless of what make/model your truck is, I don't see why you couldn't purchase the extender and install it into your truck? Here's a URL to an image of the one similar to mine, but I'm noticing there are some universal models as well if you Google it. http://thmb.inkfrog.com/thumbn/FAIRWAYFORD/F-150_Bed_Extender_009.JPG=450&gap=1 Oh, and my two 6'8" fishing buddies love my 4 doors
fivebucks
With my old Tundra I had to put a 2x4 under the back to raise it up. The new Tundra has a longer bed so no problem. It was an easy $35k fix.
CaptainMusky
I always lifted up the one end of the house (nearest the end gate) shut the end gate and then lowered the house back down onto the top of the closed endgate.Never had any issues with this. Its not putting outward pressure on the endgate.Perhaps you should invest in a cover for your house so you wouldnt have to worry about flapping? NKLCOLT1911
also sorry to highjack but i agree but making a truck with less than a 6' box is kinds silly, i would look into a bed extender and if your not worried about it being out side one of those platforms that go into your hitch are pretty slick, thats what i have thought about doing, even though all my gear fits in the box with the truxedo closed i still dont like lifting it into a lifted truck. FISHINGURU
Tailgate extender and a cover for your shack is your best option.I just decided to sell my shack and get the size smaller that fits perfectly.
coombia21
I had an uninsulated lodge last year and then I got rid of it and it fit perfectly in my box. Now that I have an insulated version it will shut it just pushed the poles into a position that I feel is not good for them, but the box still shuts.
