70+ hole Ion?

All things being equal hope to get 70+ holes out of this combination. Nils 6" drill with an Ion powerhead. The nils bit feels lighter so should be right around 20lbs and no need for an extension as well.

Saw an Ion in the store and the first thing I thought was,,, its got Mora blades on it.

It seemed too short and you'd be bent over a lot.

Then I thought was it be pretty slick with a Nils attached to it.

I hope the Ion works out with no bugs with switches, relays, and the motor.

If you run out of juice you still have the handle for the Nils.

I helped test the 8" Ion this spring and we cut 30+ holes with one battery charge through 25+ inches of ice and it was still going!

I seriously doubt that you will get 70+ holes from one charge unless you have the Nils 3" bit!

Why the Nils bit? The Ion bit cut like crazy with no down pressure and NO grabbing as it broke through the bottom of the hole. I believe their bit cut and handled even better then the Nils! The Ion also comes with a free extension.

I own a Nils and love it but bought an Ion this fall and plan to retire the Nils!

At the Thorne Bros Mod Get Together they ran it side by side with the Strikemaster Honda 4 Stroke and the ION won through a block of ice. Also, it comes with an extension.

Estimation is going off of volume of ice cut with 6" Nils versus 8" Ion. Also assumes Nils blade is as efficient as the Quantum like blades on the standard 8" Ion bit. Only time will tell.
