x67c ice machine ducer set-up

Just picked up an x67c ice machine and I hate the ducer set-up with the metal hanger thing. The plastic screw thing doesn't even tighten down (thank you seller for not telling me). I know there are threads out here about how to custom rig it, but the search function is not doing me any favors. Please point me in the right direction or provide thoughts.

Thanks,

Rob

As a side note, I think I just want to doa float set-up. I would like to use the hole in the ducer from the metal bracket to somehow rig it so that the weight of the ducer is not stressing the conection into the ducer. I hope you can picture what I am saying.

The nice thing about the x67c is the ability to use the graph feature and set the colors to get the best presentation. There is a lot of adjusting that you can do that will really help you dial it in. if you take the time and learn how to use it you will probably be very happy with the unit. if you don't take the time it will probably be frustrating.

I really like that you have the few seconds of history on the screen that can really tell you how the fish is reacting.

When I added the float to mine I found out that the cord is a little bit stiff. I cut the float down in about half and added some weight by putting a bolt with a bunch of washers on both sides of it through the hole where the old wire went on the ducer. That did make it sit more level when floating in the hole. wink

I am not afraid to tinker. I have to say though, that I did plan to use the flasher feature. Are you saying you have not found that to be useful on this unit. I hope I can at least use the flasher part to help me set tip-ups.

Oh, I think it would be helpful if you like the flasher idea. I don't know if it is as good as a flasher as the actual Vex/Marcum type flashers are but it should do just fine. I just don't want to say much one way or the other because I just don't use it in the flasher mode.It seems most guys, once they use the graph and get used to it, see the benefits. And judging by the way the LX7/9 are gaining popularity that will continue to evolve.

If you want a cheaper alternative to the Vex float, I use about a 4" piece of water heater pipe insulation. Just "twist tie" or "zip tie" it to the cord. It's about the same dia as the vex, already has the hole in it, and it's usually laying around.

I read a while ago that the reason for their current design was to avoid patent infringements. Not sure if that's true or not but the metal rod it junk nontheless. Love the x67 though.

The more I read and see (videos on youtube)about this unit the more excited I get. Especially since I only paid 100 bucks and it will be an upgrade to what I use in my boat too. I can't wait to try that graph setting where you can see your lure move and the fish move toward it. I still don't completely understand what settings I have to have it on, but I am sure I will figure it out. I also have an idea of how to customize the ducer set-up while still utilizing the metal arm. If people care at all I will post up pics. It will be a float system, not going to use the arm for hanging at all. Although the I plan to set it up you could to either. Having it on the ice of course is going to be the truest test of usibility.
