Mnfisher
I suppose I could look in my manual, but this is easier. I have a Dell XPS with windows 7. Sometimes it freezes up. On my old computer, I was able to use Ctrl Alt Delete to unfreeze it but no more. I have to shut the power off completely and start all over again. Is there a new method of rebooting the newer computers?
toughguy
Not that I know of. You may have an issue that froze everything up. Sounds like it's hold the power button time.
upnorth
If an app freezes you still ctrl+alt+del and open task manager to kill it. If the PC locks up completely you are stuck. I would normally give a few minutes to correct itself before punching the power button.

Are you using a wireless keyboard and mouse?I've got a Dell Studio 8100 and it seems the USB freezes. If I access the computer through LogMeIn, I can still remotely operate the programs on the computer, but I cannot operate the computer with the wireless keyboard / mouse. I too have to do a hard power reset if I want to use that computer's keyboard. It's been this way for a year, I just don't have the time down to take it in and get it fixed without being able to do payroll, receivables, payables, etc.
delcecchi
have you tried putting a wired keyboard/mouse back on?
Nick Kuhn
Control + Alt + Delete is if you want to open all the options.Control + Shift + Esc will instantly pop open the task manager and show you non-responding tasks. If neither of these keyboard commands does anything you have hard-locked the system. This is usually due to instability: caused by bad memory, high temperatures, or low voltages.
LwnmwnMan2
have you tried putting a wired keyboard/mouse back on? Yes, I have tried using a wired keyboard / mouse, I've tried using different USB ports on the tower.I've returned the wireless keyboard / mouse and tried new.The tower is in a cabinet and I could see where the higher temps would cause it to lock up, but then why can I still use the system remotely? Mnfisher
I don't have wireless. I'll try the ctrl + shift + ESC. Thanks for the suggestions. I should have plenty of memory.
upnorth
Remote access doesn't rely on some pieces of hardware. I have put servers up in places to monitor some stuff and just plugged in power, network and hit the power button and controlled from a remote session.
