I have never owned a 1 man portable yet, but I've got it narrowed down to a Scout TC or a Kodiak, both great products... just not sure on which one of these two I want to get yet.

What do you think fellas? And no, I don't need any other brands thrown at me, I've got it narrowed down to these two.

scout....I love mine, and even tho I am now running otters as well, the small compact size of the scout is awesome for those light trips early and late into the season, and it also still has room for solo trips mid winter with a heater...

Scout TC. The seat on the Kodiak doesn't have a back on it; the seat on the Scout does. Unless you plan on replacing the seat; that's what I would go with if it were me.

*I purchased a Scout TC last year and was pleased with it. You will love the instant set up/take down*

Jim - I have the Scout and love it. Super light weight, easy to load and I can put it on the rear rack of a wheeler. Like Lawrence, my number one priority is weight. I've used it in the coldest of temps and the Buddy Heater is all you will need. If I were 6'5" I could see the benefit of the Kodiak.

The Pro is wider and you can do more with the seat. However, you have to extend the poles and it is heavier. Last winter, early ice on Mille Lacs, I wanted to be fishing after dark and the ice was too thin to drive my truck or pull the wheel house. Using wheelers and Scouts my group was able to spread out on pieces of structure and find the eyes. Trust me, when it is dark and the wind is howling across Mille Lacs and it is time to call it quits, I don't want to mess with poles. With the Scout, I sit in the warmth of the house, pack all my gear into the sled, put the top down and throw the sled on the wheeler and start my run to shore. I also think the Scout had plenty of fishable area. I often will fish two holes - one jigging and a dead stick. I've spent full days fishing out of the scout and have no issues with space. Being compact and light is nice.

If you are looking for more room, I would almost consider the Nanook and have the ability to fish two people. I'm not a fan of multiple person portables because I don't like fishing a foot away from another angler, but that is just me. grin

Jim I have both models, I like my scout for tourney fishing and the pro when I am on the ice just fishing. there both my fav. shacks and love them both.

x2 I have an older Pro and the Scout TC. The seat in the Pro is more comfortable and there is more elbow room as well. Downside is it's a little heavier and the poles aren't one piece. Both great one man portable shacks and I don't think you could go wrong with either.

I have owned both as well and I am now a Pro user. The pole thing, is pretty mute in my opinion. I usually set them up once and then take them down when done. If I am by chance hole hopping, I usually dont use a shack or if I do, I leave my poles extendend and move to the next hole and flip it over and fish. Room room room, elbows, equipment and I don't have to worry about room if I ever want to have two holes, that is pretty tough to do in a scout. The weight, minimal and two pro's fit in the back of my truck. I'm 6' tall and 240 without gear on, I want and need a little room. The Pro is my go to quick fish one man.
