Storing Your Hunting Clothes

I keep em in a big plastic bag with leaves. I dislike the earth-scented or otherwise scented wafers/sheets/whatever, I haven't found any that I think smell natural. Always fake and over-the-top to my nose, so I figure it'd be that way but moreso to a deer

In my hunting closet under the stairs in a plastic Sterilite "dresser" or hanging up on hangers on an old shower rod for easy access during hunting season. The smaller items like hats, gloves and socks go into the dresser and the larger items like pants, shirts, sweatshirts and coats hanging up - along with the safety vests. Then the closet door stays shut. I too use dirt and leaves from the hunting area. I keep some hanging up inside the closet in cheap pantyhose I make my wife buy for me. grin

I used to keep everything in plastic bags or airtight bins but it was more work than it was worth and hasn't altered any of my results in the field - to my knowledge. I just try not to be too stinky and play the wind. I still use scent free soap, shampoo and deodorant during season but I used that stuff anyways all year long so I figure I might as well get the scent free stuff during hunting season.

Good luck!

i hang mine in the downstairs closet. air them out for a couple of weeks before the season. i see some of the neighbors do the same it seems as far as to let them air out prior to the season. realy no reason to wash them. only talking about my blaze orange. good luck.

For those w/ scent lok gear, what is your procedure with that? What I do is spray it w/ scent lok brand field spray, put in dryer, spray again, air it out, then bag it. I have heard that you are not suppose to put any kind of field spray on scent lok gear, but i figured if I'm using the scent lok brand spray it should be okay, right? confused

Yesterday I hung up all my stuff from the tote box. My stuff goes on the cloths hanger underneath the eve of the wood shed. I used to wash with the special detergent but this seems to work well for me. Everything airs out for 2 weeks. Pumped for the season opener... Seems to be getting cooler up here in NW sconnie

I use to use all kinds of cleaners, scent removers, put leaves in a bag with my clothes and on and on.

The past 10 years or so, I hang my clothes outside at night on the woodpile and they stay there till morning when it is time to go.

Ihave enough stands and play the wind all the time and simply get higher in a tree and worry less about the scent lock clothing and all the stuff that goes with it.

Many times I have hunted with blue jeand and a camo shirt and that also gets the job done.

I have alot of scent lock clothing and rarely use it the way it was intend anymore, seems to not hurt my kill success.

Numerous times I have shot deer while a cig was in my mouth or I had just went so to speak from 20-22ft above the ground and later shot a deer in that stand.

I also store a lot of my clothes in my deer pen. She likes to sleep on them they are softer then the ground or hay she normally sleeps on. It works really well towards the end of Oct and into late blackpowder season grin

That is the best cover scent idea I have ever heard of! grin

I used to spend a lot of effort and money on scent control. It seemed to work but the whole routine got old pretty quick. Now I use unscented soap and unscented detergent for my hunting clothes, which hang outside by some pine trees during the season. That's it. I haven't noticed any difference in deer sightings etc. If anything they have gone up.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
